"Worn" Ignition Switch

Wanted to get a new key since the current one, which came with the bike from the factory, was rounded and you'd have to jiggle it to get it to turn. I'm guessing that the previous owner had to have been doing the same for a while as well, making me think that the tumblers might be warped or just old and worn.

My reasoning being that after I got a new key cut to like the factory spare key that the bike came with, it wouldn't turn, even with the jiggles. I did get it cut at Sears, but even the factory spare key was never smooth turning.

I'm thinking of taking the whole ignition into a lock smith to get a key made to the now "worn" ignition, or just getting another key cut at an actual locksmith. Verdict?

Heres a picture of the progession. On the left, the factory spare key, center is the old key, the right is the newly cut key.

Re: "Worn" Ignition Switch

blurry picture is blurry, but try lubing the lock first with a graphite lube. Might help.

Take the new key and run it under a wire brush wheel on a bench grinder.

@MotoJoe: Flip phone pictures are only so good. But what do you mean by graphite lube? I thought of greasing it but I don't wanna damage any electronics in it.

Re: "Worn" Ignition Switch

UPDATE: Did more "testing" come to realise that even the factory key isn't turning easy either, safe to say the whole thing is just getting worn. I'll try the graphite trick, but if that doesn't work then I'll get another key made, but thins time having it made from the older key.

Re: "Worn" Ignition Switch

UPDATE: Thanks to moto joe's genius, I did the graphite trick and it worked. Just follow what they explained in the link and you'll be back in action.
