I just got a 2000 GSXR 600 SRAD last friday that my Bro left me since he went deploy for a year. The Bike is starting and running the only problem that I notice is that the Bike Cant run on Fisrt Gear, It runs fine in any other gear. But when I put in to first gear and let the clutch lever go is start making like scraping noise and grinding then it get stuck . I would appreciate any ideas or help in this one. Thanks in Advance
Sorry ... lol Ok i was checking the bike this friday so I went for a short ride, I put the bike on first gear and let the clutch go slow like normal but is like not engaging, feel and sound like grinding, So I decide to start using second to get start off riding, all those gears are working fine, but I cant start off from first since it grinds and sounds loud too.
yikes, don't mess around with it, dissemble the clutch assembly and go from there, you don't want to do any more damage, grinding noise sounds bad and most likely tranny related as the clutch doesn't really have a clue what gear the trannies in
yeah im going to try to dissemble the clutch hopefully this thursday after this mess with the huricane Sandy is over with it. Hopefully I can Fixe it. My brother told me that he pay someone last year to put new clutches plates and disc. Thats the last info that I have that they were worked on the clutch.
It sounds like the person who worked on her replacing the clutch didn't do a very good job.
Unless you or a buddy has done this kind of work before I would take it in to a reputable shop or a home mechanic and pay them to take it apart and reinstall the clutch.
I'm guessing the clutch wasn't put together in the right order so some parts are in the wrong spot.A shop manual would be the first priority on my list.
If you want to you can download most Gsxr manuals here for free http://everythinggsxr.com/ on top of the page there is an option for service manuals and that's it
Thanks will do.... Thats in my Priority list for this week after this bad weather is gone, pull it out and check and mounted back again, Thats for the Manual too. I will keep post with updates. I hope is not a big problem.
I find it odd that hte Clutch would be the problem if all of the other gears are working just fine.
Sounds to me more like a trans problem. They are noted to have a Shift Dent Start bolt come loose, I would start with that.
The grinding and sounds in first gear only tell me that it is not making a full shift into first and grinding the DOGs on the gears. This is bad will only get worse the more you play with it.
Shift Dent star and spring is the first place I would look. Of course, you need to remove the clutch to get to it anyhow.

There is a company called FactoryPro and they sell something called a Detent Arm Kit it helps you Shift quicker and Stop missing shifts.
You will have to go to their site and look it up if you go to google and do a search for Factorypro you'll find it

I wouldnt waste the money for a street bike. If you are spending a lot of time doing clutchless shifting, this would be worth it. But most of the time the SRAD will run just fine.
The shift kit simply replaces spring #25a with a stiffer one.
The Pro shift kit replaces #25 (arm) & #25a (spring).
Usually replacing only the spring solves most missed shifting.
Nice good info Friends I really apreciate it, I will be checking starting Thursday or Friday and I will be keep all you post with updates and problably more questions lol. But hopefully is something not bad :s
Here is my update after I check the Parts that I was told to check,
Clucth New, TRasmision looks good, So I decide to try and check the bike. Put it back together. I have the bike in stands, and I try the bike on first and she goes smooth till I rev the throttle to accelerate but I rattle Noise sounds in the Chain , like jumping and scraping the chain guard, on 2nd gear and up everyting is good, so I decide to put the bike with out the stands and check. I put it on first gear she start get off smooth then i get stuck and a rattle noise :s
Then I put in Second and everything is good, only on First is doing that, what you think it could be??
