So of course I have the gold forks and brakes. I'm getting ready to strip bike down to paint but I was wondering can forks be painted? Not really feeling the gold no more really. I know my brakes can be powercoated cuz I'm doing that but I haven't heard or seen anybody that talk about painting the forks a different color. Is it possible?
I rattle canned a set of forks on an old dirtbike I had when i was a kid. The fork tubes are aluminum and paint doesnt stick well. upon installation the paint was scraped real bad. and looked like shit after a wreck or two. wouldn't recommend doing this obviously.
On topic... I would assume that you could powder coat these as well. It shouldn't be a problem. No significant heat is used in powder coating. Id Just make sure nothing gets on the inside of the tubes.
Anodizing would be better. You would have to strip them first though. If this is a must for you, start looking around for shops that do this sort of thing. Not impossible to do yourself, but hard.
^^^ I looked into it. The bushings aren't replaceable, and are steel. Makes anodizing a real pain. Not totally impossible, but you'll have to find a shop that really knows their shit to seal both ends so the bath can't get inside.

Depends... Anodizing is definitely better, but there is a seal ~25% down the tube that you can't remove, at least on my 06.
I ended up powder coating mine as well as the bottoms and the rear shock spring.
Thanks guys.
I wasn't the one who installed them, I had a lot of stuff powder coated and anodized...
My go to guy did everything.
I can tell you that there isn't a single scratch on them.
