I've been riding/racing exclusively on takeoffs for 2 years...right up until the last 2 races...
Lucky? There were no real trends of problems with the bike either
And yes. Some people have the ability. I have taken takeoffs that people were throwing away and went way faster than they did on them. But yours or my ability to go fast on garbage tires doesnt make them any less garbage
that line is an odd one.
Same with street tires. I hear guys talk about how they "need" race tires when they are making two minute laps around Talladega (one minute fast lap track lol) when clearly any street tire would work fine for them
There comes a gray area. Tom is in it. The gray area where talent and tire performance start to blur. He is at a pace where talent and tires start to matter. More talent, can get away with lesser tires. Less talent, need better tires to make up for mistakes.
There is no right answer there, but if a guy keeps falling down and thinking it has something to do with tires, get better tires and see if you still keep falling down. If you do.... then get more talent
We all know guys who CLAIM they crashed due to lack of tire performance and go ... nope. It was JUST you .
We also know guys who take shit with cords showing and do shit that should not be able to be done, or street tires and make them go STUPID fast. and we go
Difference? Talent or lack of.
Isnt that what makes this sport so damn great? . It all matters to some level.
Are you sure it is actually cold tires, and not just not being smooth? Honest question since I dont know
Goes back to that "some people could have easily gone that fast in the same conditions thing"... that gray area.
I've been on Q2's this whole season so no warmers..The couple of times I crashed this year and last,I didn't give the tires enough time to warm up and so I lowsided both times on the first lap.I think I have the pace for race dot's so I may switch to them next season,at some point.I've been told that the stock suspension on the r6 I will be riding next year is not to good for race tires so I gotta figure that out too.
Even with Q2s if the temps are low I would use warmers on medium just to get some heat in the carcass. You just dont want warmers on street tires in the heat as they will over heat by the end of the sesion if you are not careful... although that can be combated some with pressures as well.
A lot of people forget your suspension ALSO needs to warm up too. You can go fast on cold tires and cold suspension, but you have to keep the bike REALLY neutral and be smooth.

Yeah last time I crashed was the first day the temps in the morning were low in a while and I just got careless.I thought about using warmers the way you say and I will have a set next season for sure
