Hello all, I am new to the forums here so i am just kinda introducing myself. I have been riding streetbikes for about 4 years now. I have rode dirtbikes and 4-wheelers my whole life. My first bike was a Katana 750. I only had that bike for a few months and sold it. About a year later i bought a 05 cbr600rr. I loved thatt bike! had a smoked windscreen, two brothers carbon fiber series slip-on, fender eliminator kit, integrated tailight, flush mount turn signals, the works.
About 2 and a half weeks ago i lowsided the bike, suffered some road rash and a fractured ankle. But i couldnt wait to get a new bike and start riding again, So 1 week after my accident I went to Morgantown Powersports in Morgantown WV and they had a 06 gsxr 750 for sale, The bike was gorgeous, not a scratch on it. I have always loved gsxr's and this one for some reason stood out to me, So a week or so later i got the money together for the bike, (they were asking 7k for it, i ended up getting it for 5800!) I am going this tuesday to pick it up and i am so excited!
So theres a little back history on myself and my new ride. Is there anything i need to know about these bikes? Everything i have read about them has been positive. The bike has a micron slip-on, yellow windscreen, chrome wheels, and HID's.

Re: New GSXR owner
Welcome. Did you total the cbr to have to buy a new bike? And did you invest in leathers and proper boots for the next crash? Good luck with the new bike.
Thanks for the info. Yes, the insurance company did total my cbr. I was wearing a textile riding jacket when i went down that really held up well and protected my entire upper body. But with the new bike i did order an icon overlord leather jacket, new gloves, and an icon airframe helmet. Just to invest in a pair of boots now.

Get some motorcycle specific pants too. You'll want them to have knee armour at the minimum, hip armour if you can find something that has it in your $$$ range.
Off topic, I worked near Morgantown one summer back in the day after my freshman year of college. Pretty country, bet there are some great roads in the area. Welcome aboard!
Thanks man! And yes up here in western MD, and WV there are alot of fun twisty roads, as well as some good straights. I am happy to be apart of the GSXR community, you guys will be seeing alot of me around here im sure.
I am already planning on a couple of small mods to the bike over the winter. I want to get black shorty levers and maybe new grips. What brand makes the best shorty levers for the gsxr's? A link would be great! thanks in advance!
first thing to do is check the pin connector between the R/R and the alternator, prolly the best idea is to remove the connector and hard-wire them together, saves a lotta $$ later down the road..
Just a thought..
Thanks for the info guys. I actually just picked the bike up tonight, it is super clean. And as far as the shorty levers go, i have never personally had shorty levers on any of my bikes. Just always liked the looks of them. But they chrome ones have to go. I want black ones regardless of standard size or shorty.
But i do have a question guys. Tonight when i brought the bike home and got it in the garage, i locked the bars. It was very hard to get them to unlock, took me a min or two to get them to. Is there a trick or something to these gsxr's, or what could be causing this?
Some will argue against it but I put a little dry graphite on the key and f*ck the lock cylinder with it. Don't use WD40 or something like that. Also make sure that the metal disc isn't bent inward and not allowing the key hole cover to retract. They are easy to bend and it'll let rain/moisture into the lock cylinder when the bike is parked. Make sure your key is clean and dry as well.

Glad i read this, bc i almost used WD40. Its going to drive me nuts though! Just dumped 6k into this bike and its flawless except for this. I always let little things bother me i know. Just want to fix this!
Vortex levers. They are affordable, come in long and short and are adjustable. I would go for a long brake lever. You might need all of it one day. The short clutch lever if you just use the clutch for downshifting.
