I don't think he had enough time to react! I've had similar happen to me. I was riding and turned my head a bit to the side to check a lane then turned forward and see the rear end of a deer just clear my front tire.
It happened so fast there was nothing to react to.
Confuses vag for cock... That would be "cock" as in rooster. Which might be even worse. And takes more duct tape to avoid a damn mess. Has lead to interesting nights.

I had the same shit happen a few days ago, but nothing as serious as a mattress. Dude had DOZENS of things flying out of his truck bed on the freeway as I merged on behind him. Almost had a 6 foot palm fron take me out, but was able to avoid it. I was not as calm when I pulled alongside him. I was PISSED.
2 weeks earlier, on the exact same road a half mile away, was driving my car (thankfully) and there was a truck with a liftgate on the back, with the gate down (unsecured) and he was dropping shit too. It was a big ass line painter. I barely missed it as I came around the curve.
Got up next to the truck, dude had no idea. How can you NOT know a piece of equipment that large fell out of your truck?!?!?!

WTF... People needs to learn how to secure things properly. Yeah if you watch the video closer. The mattress was sitting on an angle. So that means the mattress was blocking his rear view mirror. You would think someone would notice that all of a sudden they can see out their rear view mirror.

But seriously, glad it missed him. I see shit like that on my commute quite often to work. People think because its in the bed of a pick up truck & a short trip, there's no need to tie anything down.
i'm truly glad he's alright but he didn't even budge... the mattress was mid-air for some bit of time, but surely enough to check/swerve to avoid.

Youre much better off staying calm to judge where its going than just pick a direction in panic. Maybe his brother is a better rider than you give him credit for. As I was watching I thought"which way is it going to flip"

Exactly... had a large piece of tire kicked up on me as the tread seperated on a car in front of me on the highway. Had I panicked, I would have likely overcomensated and killed myself. Instead, it hit me in the shoulder after knocking the mirror in towards the fairing..
I know this one doesn't count, since I was in a car. An inline-6 cylinder head came bouncing of the back a pickup truck at me. You could feel that thing hitting the ground and gouging out the pavement. I came back around to see the scar on the road. It left a nice long groove in the pavement with a big chunk out where it first hit.
I've dodged a few spinning mufflers after they rotted their way loose, various boxes of who-knows-what, cigarettes, coke cans, beer bottles, brush, branches, leaves, and gravel and tar strings coming out of one of those stinky trailers.
Good job to miss the mattress! The first moment, you think "What, nah, that can't be happening.". Then in your head, you say "Oh Crap, this really is happening, I've got to do something now!".

I don't know if it was a mattress or a box spring. In the video that I posted. It looks like the mattress is flexing but that was due ot the time warp effect I added in but in the original footage from the camera. The box spring or mattress did not flex when it hit the ground.

No, my brother did not stop and confronted the driver. But he said he should of when back and told the guys off. He was just glad he made it out in one piece.
i would be taking that license plate and reporting that incident to the cops and submitting the video clip for evidence. that guy deserves as many tickets as possible.
