Switchblade got broke today. That was my last decent knife. Anybody got recommendations? Im in the market for something durable, folding. Has to fit IN my pocket. Its gonna be used solely for chores/hunting, but also just your random every day knife needs. Indifferent to serrated edges.
I dont want anything pricy seeing how they have a tendency to get lost(and stolen ) But I want to try a name brand since Im tired of having loose blades and such
Note: I will be googling tomorrow and doing research. Just looking for quick(or in depth of you feel the need) input here
Schrade knives are high quality and durable. I've got a schrade uncle henry 171uh that I love. Other than schrade you can't go wrong with buck or smith and Wesson.
I like coldsteel's knives. I've had my ti-lite for about two years. Very durable and affordable... i use mine like five times a day it seems. Check out their demonstration videos on youtube. Be warned: the videos are cheesy but they do a decent job on their strength demonstrations
Without spending 200 bucks on a knife, I think the Kershaw is a great buy. I have had mine for about 3 years now and carry it everyday, everywhere. It has held up really well and I am super impressed with it. I got it on sale at Cabela's for about 40 bucks on sale from 90. Look on Amazon though. They seem to have great prices on knives.
Big difference in "tool" knifes and defensive knifes
For a "tool" knife any of the big names make a decent knife honestly. Figure out size and blade type and buy it. since features like assisted open and shit like that are not needed,and it will likely be fucked up by use eventually no need to go super high end.
I have a few Gerbers, a few smith and wesson, and a bunch of others I use for work knifes just fine.
It's all about the steel. The harder the steel the more brittle the blade deflection but, the longer the edge lasts. The softer the steel the less brittle the blade but the edge doesn't last as long. I personally like the dual steel use of the latest Ken Onion Kershaw (starting with the Tyrade, (discontinued)). I have since bought the dual steel Leek which works as my everyday cuttlery for work. The edge is D2 steel (Carbon) while the butt is made of a more maluable steel, very good knife.
