The other day my brother came to me and showed me this video of him going to work. I am glad he made it out without any injury.
He told me he was looking at his right mirror to merge onto the the right lane and by the time he looked up. He saw the mattress heading towards him.
Just FYI his speedo if not accurate. He changed his front and rear sprocket. That is why the speedo reads 93mph at one point of the video. If you compare his speed to the cars around him, he is traveling about the same speed as the other cars. Also he is wearing a bionic armor jacket under his hoodie. Not my choose of protective gear but that is better than a t shirt.
This happened to a guy I used to ride with when I lived in VA. It was a few years ago, and it was either a mattress or a kiddy pool. It came out of the bed of a truck and he ran over it. It did not end well. He went down hard, was out of it for a couple of weeks. He did not ride for a long time because of the concussion he sustained.
Wow. This is what scares me about riding. Its not my ability as a rider, but everyone elses ability as a driver. How did he not notice the mattress fly out of his truck?

Yeah the guy in the truck had no idea his mattress flew off.
i'm truly glad he's alright but he didn't even budge... the mattress was mid-air for some bit of time, but surely enough to check/swerve to avoid.
maybe the shock of it stunned his reaction time or something
I don't know. He just told me he was checking his mirror because he wanted to change lanes. By the time he looked up, the mattress was already hitting the ground.
right i overlooked that bit when reading your first post. your brother is quite lucky. I'm surprised he didn't go after that truck driver for not securing the mattress or call the cops... even if your brother didn't hit the mattress, someone probably did.
I don't think he had enough time to react! I've had similar happen to me. I was riding and turned my head a bit to the side to check a lane then turned forward and see the rear end of a deer just clear my front tire.
It happened so fast there was nothing to react to.
