so I read the how-to on the flapper mod and the OP said he used a 3/8" air filter on the crankcase breather tube.
Cool - so I go to the auto store and get one of those small air filters - package says fits 3/8" - 1/2"
get home = no, tube is just a hair too big 1/3 - 1/4 inch maybe. So I take it back to the store and return it. Can anyone 100% confirm that a 3/8" filter works?
The crank case breather tube was a hair too big.
1. is the tube actually 3/8" ?
2. should I have just bored out the air filter rubber fitment piece to make it fit? Then used the provided clamp to tighten it down?
Boring it out just a hair just dawned on me while I'm sitting here at work.

Most sanctioned race organizations and some track days require that the crankcase breather be vented to some form of catch tank...be it the airbox or a separate container, and that venting to atmospheric with a filter and a hose is not adequate. Remember, it is about the safety of others and YOU that these rules are written. Same reason real race lower fairings are one piece and must be capable of containing several quarts of oil. I only bring this up since you are "LEANING" towards the track and less street.
You can discount this comment and reply that you're not racing and the track day organizer doesn't check this.......but remember that the intent of the rules is safety, both yours and others. Who wants to have their day put to an end and a damaged bike and/or body because someone else puked oil out the crankcase breather....you think a filter is going to stop it? A little oil in your airbox never hurt anything, really. Imagine that potentially you are on the receiving end of this scenario....
i wouldn't think that you would get much hot dirty air from the base. and yes oil on the track is a no no. the marshals will not befriend you if you have them out there scrubing oil off the track.
More reasons then just the hot dirty air... If you have the air box mod done, and you still route the crank case vent into the airbox, your new mod will cause extra pressure to build in the air box, in turn, causing more pressure on the vent, in turn, making more pressure inside the case, in turn, causing less HP from the motor.

So there are reasons for it. .

So.....route it to a legitimate catch tank, rather than the airbox, as I said in my original post: crankcase breather be vented to some form of catch tank...be it the airbox or a separate container......right?
Lean.....use this:
6GSXR7OCT
Suzuki GSXR 750 Oil catch tank
This little tank catches oil that gets spit out through the crank case breather hose on high performance engines. The professional and best looking way to solve this problem.
or you could reroute it to the front of the airbox underneath the filter assy where the pressure would not be a problem not would oil collection and it would still be a sealed system.
how much is that catch can you postsed ccm? edit $89.90 + shipping
I was thinking of using something like this - seal the top - maybe pack it with some kind of foam (just a little) - make a few vent holes near the top so the can doesn't explode - make a hole for the hose - insert it - seal it - clamp it or zip tie it on the inside of the frame somewhere so the oil falls to the bottom - voila.
