1998 GSX-R 750 SRAD Transmission ????

I just recently bought a 1998 gixxer 750 SRAD. I did some research before i bought it and was happy so i purchased the bike. I asked the guy how many gears it had he said 5, and that is true this bike only has 5 gears. I was looking around and saw that the bike is supose to have 6. So my question is, is it possible the bike could have 6th gear and it just wont shift into it? Or is there a 5-speed transmission for this bike and someone put it in? He also said they put a different sprocket on the bike and thas why the speedometer is off about 5-10 mph depeding on the speed. From the looks of it I probably got sold a broken bike. But it rides fine through the gears and runs about 6500 RPMs at 70mph. Does any one have any answers

It has a 6 speed transmission and it is rare that it won't shift into 6th gear!

6 Gears.

Speedo's are off from the factory. The sprockets have the teeth stamped on them. Your bike's stock teeth are 16/44.

Ok thanks for the info so far. But when I try to shit into 6th it doesn't move. Could I really be in 6th and skipped a prior gear? Any hints on why the speedometer could be off? As you can tell Iam new to sport bike riding and this is my first bike. So any help would be greatly apprciated. Thanks John

You could try and adjust the clutch and clutch cable.

Do search in this sub-section for the FREE service manual.

There's your problem bud, you can't shit it into 6th gear.

Kidding bro. Do a fluid change, and note the RPM changes between gears if there's a sudden large rpm drop it may be a different gear that's messed up. Just a thought.

Ok, then I would say that the shift drum or shift dent star have a problem.

It would be time to break into the motor to try and review. If you are looking to do this, we can help advise on it.

I just checked my sprocket is +2 from stock.
I'm going to look into the service manual and see what I can find. Also going to check if the shift lever needs to be adjusted

Sometimes the shifter will bind on the linkage if not adjusted properly.
Just a thought...
