I went out to watch as my old man has a condo on the lake.. and a few people I know from another forum were racing.. Pretty spectacular stuff..
I shot quite a few photos.. and posted some favorites on another forum (chicagolandsportbikes.com) Figured some people on here might be interested in the pics and or possibly checking it out.. Seems they are running every weekend both days
Grasshopper #199 chasing down #74
Grasshopper still chasing down #74 (i think)
#42 and #75 duking it out
#3 really backed it in
same corner - split second later (i am omitting some shots)
Sweet Pics. How thick is the ice on that lake this time of year? And the outside air temp?
Solid 10" min to go racing...
These pics were shot Sunday the 11th... It was cold then.. It's BITTER cold in Chicagoland now.. I am downtown and according to my iphone it was -14 this AM on my way in (without windchill) I think it's in the -30 range right now.. *with windchill* factored in..
I am not going out this weekend, a friends father passed away.. but I am planning (hoping?) on stopping out next weekend.. might even rent a better lens for the weekend
I shot over 600 pics.. and the gallery was pretty popular.. made #1 search on google for ice racing and got over 40k hits in 2-3 days.. only posted on the one site and thru searches.. it's pretty cool.. I have gotten comments and emails from a few of the competetors who found themselves on it
Anyone else want to check it out?
It says it's &$ to get in the pit area.. but there was nobody collecting there when I was there.. but the entire pier area is just free... Seems strange that theyd do all of this for nothing.. but its good to get out and support them anyway...
Side note.. from what I read those things have far more traction than any other kind of offroad riding.. possibly onroad.. thats just amazing
