Whats up fellas, i'm new to this site & i have no clue what im doing yet, so forgive me if im posting in the wrong places here, just need some help trying to break down a problem.. Please help if you can..

I just bought a 01 gsxr 750 w/ 11,000 miles on it, i just had it up to 4th, 5th & 6th the other day for the 1st time / & didnt feel right at all.. I dont know if i have a tranny problem / or a clutch problem..

To me the it feels like a cutch issue, but sounds like trans issue.. Im gonna categorize here to explain better > 1st THE WINE SOUND > 1st, 2nd, & 6th wine. 6th wines incredibly loud Like wtf, shes gonna blow dude.. > GEARS / POWER > 1st gear feels weak, i wanna switch to 2nd asap everytime like instantly, 2nd is fine, 3rd is smooth, 4th is ok, 5th & 6th theres alot of throttle/WAAAM but no UMPH ! Needle stays @ 3-4 rpm, feels like all engine & no gear basically..

My main question is > Do i need a trans or clutch replacement ?
What can i do to make everything perfect, im anal about shi* like this.

First time rider / But a pro on quads ~

has not been tuned
up since i bought it
which was a month ago !
Metal shavings came out of
first oil change. Thats all i know ~

yeah bud...00-02 i believe had many ,many problems with 2nd gear. I believe something about output shaft or something of the sort?? Not good, and involved alot of the first generation bikes. Do a "search" in the forum section on this site, and you will see what i mean. They can be fixed, and other than that i think they are a pretty solid bike overall.Good luck!

I appreciate the responses fellas, just trying to figure out what the hell'z causing these various issues, i mean overall > i can change out (the clutch & tranny) & it would probaly resolve all issues, the cost 4 these parts on ebay > good tranny & clutch set replacement is only $100.. Just afraid of the labor costs & dont really trust many to do the job cause im sure they'll rape my pockets > lol..

Become a member of the site, download a manual and you can tackle the job yourself if you have any mechanical skills.

If you take your time, you can have the engine dropped in about an hour. Flip it over, remove the oil pan and lower case and the tranny is right there.

I doubt if the clutch is shot if you hearing a whine from the gears.
Quite possible the gears might be eating themselves if you have metal shavings in the oil. That's bad....

Hear me out, I'm very smart > ears, eyes & feel wise !!
Some external mechanic skills ( NO INTERNAL )
Def not attempting these fixes alone either lol ~

Response's > I agree with u (BAG) it wouldnt have a
sound if it was the clutch, plus theres alot of WAAM & no
kick (feels & sounds like trans) NOT CERTAIN THO, thats
why your reading my post.. LOL !! By sound & feel >
thats what it seems like tho.. Not to worried about the
shavings in the oil ( fear wise i mean ) as i said before,
i just want a sollution, if its the trans, its $40 on ebay,
then i just need a cool mechanic > problem solved..
Parts are Parts brother.. It happens what can u do..

Response to u (600K2).. Ok If you changed your tranny was it
because your issue was related to my issues @ all dude ?
If you changed it > had to be related no ? If not disregard
the quest, (im trying to narrow it down here) thats all..

Overall >

I'm in WIND GAP PA > GOOGLE MAP ME QUICK !
If anyone near me from jersey or PA is a good mechanic,
has a good side garage mechanic, who's got real
skills @ a very decent cost ($250-350) then lets get it done
ASAP... I wanna know what this prob is > (or) ill make it easy,
i'll buy both parts, ask whoever to just change the clutch & trans,
call it a day > & have a mint running bike tomorrow ! Let me know ~
Thanx Fella's ~

I needed to replace my shift forks and the shafts they slide on, 2nd gear (drive? :scratch) and 6th gear (driven? :scratch). It wasn't that bad to do, IMO, for ME.

My bike would grind shifting from 1st to 2nd and then not hold 2nd under hard acceleration. If I was in 2nd and went more than 1/2 throttle the bike would fall into neutral.

If this is your first bike and you are not sure what is normal or not, I can look over it with you if you want. I have seen some beat Y2K bikes, bikes with a 1/2 rotation of throttle play, clutches way out of adjustment, bikes that would not run and idle if the fast idle switch was turned off. It never hurts to have someone familiar with these bikes help you take a look. Maybe we could go for a quick ride and see what your bike is actually doing and you can see what is normal riding mine.

Found out the prob fellas > today i found some kid
around my area (thank GOD) who's a pro with working
on bikes, i told him everything i posted here, then i let
him take the bike for a spin, he comes back & right away
he said ( for the record dude ) this is not a 750cc !! I'm
like here we go ( whats he gonna tell me now ).. He goes
Ur runnin more like a 250 > CAUSE UR CUTCH IS SHOT.. LMAO !!

He pats me on the back & says > order a new
clutch kit (its gonna be ok dude).. LOL.. I said to him >
No wonder why i got so comfortable on the bike right
away from riding quads.. Hes like yea > cause its not a
750 right now, but when u get the bike back after a new
EBC clutch kit installed, then ur gonna know what a 750 is !!
LMAO >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Problem solved !!

No tranny issues.. Just needs a new
forks seal kit, chain & sprocket setup,
gonna go with a +2 rear, its a +4 now
just want a bit more of acceleration, not
really interested in stunti, so should be fine.
& lastly an EBC clutch kit... Done !!

(600) If i didnt find this dude today,
i def woulda took u up on that offer 100%..
Much respect brother, keep in touch, lets
ride as soon as it gets warm.. Thanks to
everybody else as well for ur efforts..

August Fox ~
