: Would a Honda F2 or F3 be a good first bike?

My friend who has rode for about 10+years suggested me to get a Honda CBR 600 F2 or F3. After reading the above posts with people saying to get a slower less cc bike, would a F2 or F3 be too much in your opinions?

Thanks,
Dave

If you're planning on an MSF course first I'd say go for it.

I don't think that they would be all that awfull. Just don't get too bent outta shape if the plastics get fugged up after a couple "newbie drops". Many newbies (Including myself when I had my first bike, Honda Rebel 250 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) will drop the bike in slow or no speed turns. Usually stuff like parking the bike, moving it in the garage will result in the bike falling. Plastics hold up oh not so good when kissing pavement lol.

thanks for the reply guys. I'm planing on taking the motorcycle saftey course before I even buy a bike. I have a couple friends that I will more than likely be riding with any time I go riding for the first few months and they said they would take care of me and show me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks again.

I have an F3 and I have to say it is an easy and comfortable bike to ride. It is more forgiving than some bikes I have ridden before. It also is a very competent bike with good power and good handling . I would suggest getting a cruiser type bike (like flesh mentioned, rebel 250) and ride it for a few thousand miles. After you are familiar with motorcycle dynamics then add in the complexity of a sport bike. My wife did just that and is a great rider. You wouldn't believe how just riding different bikes will improve your skill as a rider.

AN F2/F3 would be a good bike to start on as they are not as Race Replica as the newer gen bikes, it will still demand Respect, and like John said the plastics are not forgiving.

The F2 and F3 are pretty much the same basic bike, I think out of the box they made 80 some horse power, very good ergos for and riding of distance, and when you grow into it upgrades are plentiful.

My first street bike was a Honda VF500F Interceptor, now if you can find one of those to start on, you would be happy for a few thousand miles, you can find decent ones for about $1-2K
Just my $.02
