just reading on different bike sites today, and saw this post of a guy who tried to wheelie and didn't have much luck. Basically I'm just posting it so you all remember to wear your gear and be careful. have a good one.
"Ok... for those of you that want to kick my ass around and tell me "I told you so..." go right ahead. I'm mainly writing this so some other newbie can read up on it, and to let the others who responded to my post know of how things went.
Almost two days after I wrote my post that is right below asking a wheelie question I was riding with my friend (also a new rider) with a GSXR. Next thing I know the guy does a willie for the first time and he's on top of the world.
As we were filling our bikes up this was something that me and him were tossing back and forth. I realized that before my front end never came up because I really never gave it enough gas. So thinking and talking about this I told him that I was going to twist the wrist all the way after the light turned green. As we were sitting there I couldn't make up my mind and the damn light was stalled by a cop that passed by making the wait unberable.
As my friend took of I sat there and then starting rolling... then I said fuck it and punched it... ... ... something happened... ... and all of a sudden I was sliding on my back watching my R6 wheelie forward falling on it's side and sliding off into the darkness setting off sparks.
I picked myself up and walked over to the bike. I was full of anger for my stupidity... it's only later that your common sense kicks in, but I was happy that I was wearing full gear and realized that I did not sustain any heavy injuries. I tried picking my bike up and fell back down with it. I was in shock and still trying to get myself together. The whole thing was a bit surreal. I finally was able to lift my bike and roll it into a parking lot where I took off my helmet, sat down, and tried to understand what exactly happened.
My friend was there and worrying about me and my bike just as much as I was. I could tell that I banged up my wrist pretty good and my shoulder sustained some damage too. In the darkness I examined my bike and ralized that although the thing slid at about 30+ miles per hour it sustained relatively little damage due to the frame sliders I installed.
I was able to make my way back home since I was only a few minutes away. After getting in my wrist and shoulder really started to ache, along with my hip where I landed. I examined my gear and my glove's palm was torn up, but not all the way through. That saved my hand. My jacket's sleeve was torn up and that saved my wrist. My elbow protection was worn through, and that saved my elbow. My riding pants had road rash that almost tore through the fabrick, but again it held together, so I owe the skin on my legs to them. All in all I was just banged up, but probably in the best condition that could result from the accident.
The bike's rear cowl, light, foot peg, gear shifter, clutch lever, front rim, front tire, and stator cover were destroyed.
Anyhow, I can write up much more about this... but I doubt you guys want to hear it all. It has been two weeks and I am getting better. Got to go back to the Doctor to check the wrist in a couple of weeks. Otherwise I'm healing up good. Don't worry about your insurance rates because I'm rebuilding the bike on my own... it just takes forever for the parts to come in through the mail.
I am getting back on the bike... I feel as if this somehow was a learning experience, and I hope that this is the worst that will happen.
Thank you all for the tips and warnings... I wish that I would have listened more."
