: Clutching Up/throttle Up In 2nd Gear On K6 600 Not Working???
BlackStevo 06-11-2006, 10:20 PM I have an 06 600 with just a slip on. I can crack it at 8k in 1st gear and it comes up no problem. I'm kind of nervous about shifting to 2nd while up in 1st so i'd rather just get it up in 2nd gear. I've tried clutching it and just whacking the throttle but neither work. I was doing about 55mph when I pulled the clutch and revved it up to 15k and dumped it, but it only comes up a tiny bit. Same thing when i just whack the throttle. At 10k in 2nd gear (whatever mph that is) i let off so it compresses the front shocks a bit then twist all the way and it doesnt come up more then a few inches. i even transfer my weight and pull back on the handle bars. this is sitting down mind you, havent tried standing up
BlackStevo 06-11-2006, 10:21 PM i just ordered a -1/+2 setup too so hopefully that will help me at least a lil bit
PS I weigh 210 lbs so maybe i'm just too big to do it?
Xiaro 06-11-2006, 10:25 PM must be something wrong with your clutch technique, use your middle fingure on the clutch side and in one fluid motion pull the clutch in 2cm, twist the throttle to 10-11k or whatever and snap realease the clutch. All done as fast as possible.. itll come up
slack0Yd 06-11-2006, 10:34 PM The key to clutching is making sure the throttle is going up while the clutch is going out. If you rev and dump, your loosing a bunch of power. You must slip the clutch under throttlle. If you watch the good guys, they barely rev the engine at all. They slip the thing under throttle and it lifts. No high revs to bring it up. On a 600 you gotta slip it more, but it will work just the same.
And everytime I think its the bike ... its me. Every time!
csimp3 06-12-2006, 01:55 AM hey, im the same weight, and i could do it on my 99 zx6r, except i didnt clutch it, id get it to like 40-50 mph in second gear then stand up, push down on the bars, and as it comes back up, gas it, and it should stand right up, after you get the hang of standing and doing wheelies, you can sit down or shift or whatever, just remember to cover the rear brake, good luck, hope this helps

beck26 06-12-2006, 09:44 PM this one time at band camp.....lol
BlackStevo 06-15-2006, 02:26 PM ok, next question is clutching it up bad for the slipper clutch on my 06??? I pretty much got it down pat now with a little help of a sprocket change but i'd rather just crack the throttle and power it up
i never clutched mine. too scared to try. i always just stand up and bounce it. had an 01 r6 in 2nd. bounced right up. timing is everything in bouncing. and be sure to release the throttle before just "cracking" on it. let the nose dive, then hit it on the way up. my technique anyway.
beck26 06-18-2006, 06:34 PM I've just been getting started attempting wheelies, and i'm still worried about it coming up to fast so i'm just taking my time. I like my bike and how it looks so droping it would piss me off.
BlackStevo 07-03-2006, 07:28 PM i figured it out the bike neds tobe around 6500 rpm for this to work. I posted i was doing it at 10k and no one said i had to be at a lower RPM. it comes up no problem now
UMGixxer 07-05-2006, 07:36 AM i have a question for ya, why do you have a slipper clutch, do you race that bike also or something

damn!!! dont shift you might fuck up your tranny. seems like your just learning and need to practice practice practice......then practice somemore. You have to committ to clutching, lean back. When learning you gotta LEAN BACK and stay LEANED BACK till she is atleast half way up. Learn that rear brake too. It does wonders!!!:cheers
Slim Fast 07-06-2006, 06:49 PM i have a question for ya, why do you have a slipper clutch, do you race that bike also or something
06 GiXXers come stock w/ slipper clutches :wacko
UMGixxer 07-07-2006, 07:36 AM umm sorry dont own an 06 600 and i dont read up on bikes that i dont have so whateva :nono
arceo_1 07-12-2006, 11:17 PM with the 600 my prob was that i was not holding onto the throttle once i let the clutch out, are you just opening the gas and then lettting go a lil once you pop the clutch? btw, im 160lbs
BlackStevo 07-12-2006, 11:45 PM thansk guys, I've gotten it down pat now. I can clutch in 2nd and right a sit down til redline almost everytime. My problem was i was starting at to high of an rpm. I would be doin 60mph in 2nd gear at 10-11k, I needed to be around 6k-7k. I just gotta work on this 2-3 shift now
PITBULLMAN 07-19-2006, 05:37 PM I've clutched it up a bunch of times and right now if I try all I get is a spin out at higher speeds b/c the tire is crapped out.
Anyhow, its your technique. The best thing is to just keep practicing. Be careful as first is twitchy. But you can just be easy and figure out your timing, etc. They go to 2nd and figure it out....
This is my thing. You bust your ass, your a grown man and make your own decisions. Take it easy, slip the clutch, not totally disengage, and practice....

just about every bike has a slipper - little behind the times buddy
gimpsta 07-19-2006, 06:09 PM oh and if your want to keep your bike all "pretty"
stay away from racing, hard twisties, and stunting
oh and chicks who don't have the respect NOT to touch your bike when they have NO idea how to handle it.
UMGixxer 07-20-2006, 12:53 PM just about every bike has a slipper - little behind the times buddy

new750 07-21-2006, 09:43 AM i got learn my clutch up technique
WaynesNside 07-21-2006, 03:27 PM i got learn my clutch up technique
:wtf
Your bike doesn't have one. (slipper clutch)
UMGixxer 07-21-2006, 11:40 PM didnt think i did
gsxr6002005 07-23-2006, 01:32 AM just about every bike has a slipper - little behind the times buddy
gimp, you must mean just about every new bike has a slipper.. :scratch i know most of the 06 models do, but before that only a select few had a slipper

whats a good rpm to start at in second? and what should i rev up to before i release the clutch all the way? im trying to learn as methodically as possible to limit my mistakes.:squid
UMGixxer 07-31-2006, 08:15 AM Im not sure the exact rpm but I think we I do mine I at least have to be going around 30-40 the faster I go the easier it is for it to come up.
SincereSRAD 08-26-2006, 08:45 AM the more you focus on speed rmp and throttle the more its not going to come up....you have to just feel it out slip the throttle give it gas just by the sound of it youll know its going to come up...makes the same exact sound everytime you get it up
