I just finished the motorcycle safety course. And I have decided to purchase a 02' sv 650s with 700 miles for my first bike. I have really no experience riding, other than the msc. I really wanted to get a gixxer 600 for my first bike, but after everything I have read I decided not to go with the race bike with lights and a license plate mount (gixxer 600). Just too much bike, and not enough experience. So is the sv 650s a good choice??

It can be....Just use some common sense...and you should be o.k. The SV has about 70 hp...compared to a 600 that has over 100 hp...which is a big difference...plus the SV has a nice powerband, plenty of tourqe...to make it more user friendly..Make sure to buy, if you haven't already...the proper gear...fullface helmet, leather riding jacket, riding gloves, and MC boots..I'd also recomend leather pants, as jeans really don't offer much in the way of protection...in other words..dress up, to go down...not saying that will happen, but..be prepared. I'd also recomend riding in deserted areas, like in residental, or comercial ares, where traffic is minimal, just to get use to the bike, and become relaxed on it...If there are any responsible riders in your area, try to hook up with one, or 2 that would be willing to help ya out...this will speed up the learning process, and help you to deal with the pitfalls of riding on the street..always ride defensivly...Good Luck, and welcome to the ADDICTION.. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

thank you for the engouragement, and tips. I will definitely be getting brand new, correctly fitting safety gear, that is not optional. I appreciate your input, and can't wait to start

Hey Nor66cal,
Be sure to let us know how the first ride went. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I just want to see if you can put that thing away after your first ride. hehehehe...
When I got my Katana 750, (after I did my practice riding in a HUGE, EMPTY parking lot, practicing turns, stops, slow movements, etc for weeks) I couldn't put it away. I would go out on deserted roads and just ride and ride. I'd come home to put the bike away...sit for a minute, pull it out again and go for another ride. Couldn't put it down, so to speak. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
So, I just want to see how thrilled you get after you get some practice on it. Like everyone else says..... Welcome to the ADDICTION!!!!!! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
