Welp, different strokes, for different folks....Once you get on the track, THEN you'll see what Riding really is........ http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
GSXRLOVER 03-06-2003, 11:50 PM Everyone is different . And yes if you are scared of riding a bike you should NOT be riding stay your ass in a car. Also my personal opinion ANY bike can't get your ass in trouble the only difference is that supersports get you in trouble alot quicker. Best example I crashed on a TS100(suzuki) broke 5 ribs and dislocated both my shoulders rather painful but you learn. Imagine if this was on a supersport for all I know I could of killed my ass .

Yah, you don't realize how much you really suck until you hit the track. Imagine going through a corner, knee down, good line, good drive, and a guy on a smaller bike comes flying around you on the outside...few seconds later, he's out of sight.
Just FYI, though, neither the TLR or the 750 are great learner track bikes; the power is a bit too high to learn with. I nearly highsided my 750 several times because I got too greedy on the throttle (well, I did highside a couple times, I just didn't crash).
I'm not going to bother commenting on what good/bad bikes are for first bikes because it's been covered already and you're new, so I'll let this one lame comment go.
Sergeant Nic 03-07-2003, 07:26 AM http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif's made http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif comments. But whatever floats your boat buddy.

fRaGgLe 03-08-2003, 01:25 PM I have NEVER seen a good rider that did not start off small.
Never, ever, not once, there are no exeptions that I know. The very closest is a friend that bought an R6, binned it three times, then got an EX250, he is approaching "good" now, and he is currently riding a YZF600.
I have seen some seriously dangerous riders that think that they are the shit, and I've met some really, really slow riders that have very fast bikes.
One of the craziest riders I have ever known used to take great delight in riding off the edges of his tires on a TZR125, around the inside, outside, or once straight into the back of (oops) litre bikes on track days - the R1 rider lost it, and my fried T-boned him at a closing speed of maybe 50mph....
As for being scared of your bike - I think that you need to hold a healthy level of respect for it. My bike can scare me at times, not so much the bike but the sheer speed I am travelling at, or the adrenaline rush as I accelerate hard, corner hard, or even stop real fast.
Learning to ride on a fast bike is hard, learning to ride fast on a fast bike is an amazingly difficult skill.
Most people can survive out ther, given caution, luck, and decent observation skills, but very, very few people can ride to even 75% of a GSXR600's potential.
So, why do I ride a 750 ?
Partly because I can be a little lazier riding it over a 600, but partly because it exites, ans scares the crap out of me at least once a week, boy the last 57,000 miles have been fun.
Oh, and even after all that time, and the preceding 18 years of street riding on everyting from a 50cc FS1e to a Turbo kwak, FZR1K, and a couple of 'blades, I still cannot ride it much over 75% for all but short time periods....

Good post once again fRaGgLe (voice of reason) http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif cracks me up http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif that think that since they have been ridding for a year or two and have 10K miles on the road and have managed to "start out on a 600 or 750 sportbike" think they are "fast" http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/burnout.gif and think they can "handle" the hottest fastest bikes out there, but suggest they try a "small" bike to improve their skills and they wouldn't be caught dead on "that" girl, small, non cool, ect. bike http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif. God forbid they "improve" http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/idea.gif and the "I'm gonna get a 750 for the track" comment... LOL http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wtf.gif only a http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif would think the 750 would be a "GOOD" first track bike, hell wouldn't want to start out on the track with a SV650 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/piss.gif, EX500 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/piss.gif, RD350 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/piss.gif, TZ250 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/piss.gif, or other uncooll bike like that!!!! nor66cal 03-09-2003, 01:05 AM hey, i am a new rider, brand new, just got my license from the motor cycle safety course. before the course i had had no prior riding experience. and i really wanted a gixxer 600. they are super fast, scary nibble, and they are flat out gorgeous bikes. i was torn, didnt know what to do. i did want something ugly and slow. but i felt that i could get myself into a lot of trouble with a new gixxer 600, especially from everyhting i have read on this site http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/idea.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/idea.gif. not so much because of the power, i can control my wrist, but because of the handling characteristics of a racebike, which is what a gsx-r 600 is with lights and a license plate mount. so once i evaluated my ego, and put my riding experience into perspective (none) i decided to go with a sv650s. not a monster, but no slouch either. it is a lot more forgiving than the gixxer and the powerband is a lot more newbie friendly. i am proud of my decision. and anyone who calls me a pussy for not going small, or not getting the true sport bike can kiss my ass, because those type of guys who say things like that are not real riders. any real rider knows that with the bikes out now at days a new rider such as myself has to start small, and relatively passive when it comes to handling characteristics. hey do what you want, just think and evaluate. but in the end its your body and your dollar! good luck on what you get or have already gotten http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
nor66cal 03-09-2003, 01:11 AM so you think the sv650s would be a good beginner bike??
ta2drvn 03-09-2003, 01:50 AM testosterone levels coming down a bit....LOL ***just joke,so don't get crazy now.****
sounds like a bit of reason is sinking in. Keith Code school is a great start, hell any track day school is a great choice. I enjoyed it very much, so did my fiance.
If you are serious about doing some club racing then you are gonna be suprised to find that a lot of the guys out there start off on ex500's and sv650's these sound like pussy bikes but they are great to start out in the club racing events. If that is what you are buying a new bike to do since you have a TLR you may want to look at one of these bikes as a real choice for this kinda work, many reasons to go that route biggest reason is cost. Racing even just for fun is expesive. however if you are not looking to do club racing and you just wanna improve and have some fun at an occasional track day then the 600 may be a good choice.
Above all have fun and ride in control don't be stupid there are far too many idiots out there and the more idiots there are the more willing the gov is to step in an limit the sport we all love.

Yes. I have a few guys I ride with that are newbie's and they ride sv's and love them, they are powerfull enough to have fun and these guys are improving a lot, one of these guys just picked up an R6 after a year of riding the sv and I think he's gonna be better on it because he took the time to ride the sv first the other guy liked his so much that when he got hit by a car he bought another one. You will be very happy with it.
Rev. Intrigue 03-09-2003, 08:08 AM The gixxer600 is still not a good bike for beginners. And how long have you been riding so that you can toss the tiller around "fast". I dunno http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Where's the flesh when you need him.
nor66cal 03-09-2003, 12:18 PM hey thnx for the encouragement, and response, i hope i do have fun on it. i know its plenty of bike for a newbie such as myself
