: Gas Mileage...low?

Okay, whenever the Empty/Low Fuel Light comes on... I usually fill up within about 5 miles and 10 at the most... I know it could probably stretch further... but whatever.

Anyway, when I fill the bike up with the Low Fuel Light on... I can put in about 3.5 Gallons.

If I check the Trip Meter... I am getting around 100-110 MILES per Tank... is this right? Shouldn't I be getting MUCH better fuel efficiency?

I'm using 93 Octane Mobil gas... should I drop that down to 89 Octane?
Am I over-revving the engine? (I shift UP, when cruising, @5k RPMs and only let the engine go to about 7-8k if getting up to speed FAST)

I do a bit of city driving... but I thought bikes got MUCH better gas mileage than what I'm getting... around 25-28 MPG...

Any help is much appreciated.

I get around 130 on the trip meter before the light goes off, and I have gone at least 10 miles past that before getting gas on the streetbike. But I am not riding gentle, and I am sure I could get more out of it. I would think a 600 would be better though.

I am around 90 - 110 depending on usage http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

On a long trip up to San Fran recently I was managing 130miles on a tank, on a track day I emptied the tank in 45 miles http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for all the replies... I realize these things aren't scooters, and I guess they eat a lil more gas, but 28mpg ain't too shabby... although I could get more miles per fill if I left the light on longer... out of 4.8 gallons, I'm filling 3.5 at the stations... when the light comes on.
I have a feeling that traffic to and from work is eating some fuel as well... stop n' go.

I get around 125-130 before the low light and then ride around for about 15-20 miles on that.

On my 97 600 gix, I could manage about 160 mi..if I didn't gas it...on my 99 750 gix, about 100-110..Still, I think your milage is a tad low...for a 600...

Dang...sounds like I have a problem too.

On my 1992 Katana 750, I only get about 100 miles and then I have to switch to the reserve part of the tank. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I was wondering if anyone knew (since we were discussing it here), does a 1989 GSX-R750 have a light for low fuel? I did (like a moron) comment on it not having a gas gauge to the guy at the dealer I'm getting it from and he looked at me like I was an idiot (rightly so), but never said anything about there being a light when the fuel gets low. I didn't even pay attention to see if it had a tripometer on it! On my Katana now, the moron before me took the gas gauge out, so I had to only use the trip. It's no big deal, but I don't believe the GSX-R's have a reserve, correct? So if I push it to see how far it will go and run out, I'm screwed. Hehehehe... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/plthumbsdown.gif

The gas light on my SVS usually starts flashing at around 160+ miles. I went 220 miles on a tank once, talk about running on fumes.
