Well, finally made it to the track Friday night with my K5 1K.

The bike was lowered & strapped front, lowered rear (app. 2in of ground clearance), -1/+2 gearing, slip-on, PC3.

My rear tire is still the stocker with 2600 miles on it so it didn't have much life left and that proved to be a problem. I commute on the bike quite a bit so the center wasn't in the best shape.

First three runs spun the tire hard off the line and most of the way through first.

Next couple runs the tire hooked a bit better after dropping the pressure, but still breaking loose out of the hole and then the bike wheelied more later in first.

60ft times were low 1.8's with a few high 1.7's and few mid 1.7's.

I was dissapointed with my mph as it was only ~139 where as the 01-02 1K's I ran ~142.

My last run was the best at 10.109 @143 with a 1.85 60ft. Most of my runs were low 10.2's with a few 10.1x's runs.

I think with a better tire, adding a couple chain links (have 1.25inches of space left) I can get down to 9.9's. Well, I hope at least
:cheers

Add 2 links,it'll help a bit
That gearing may be hurting your 60' time as well as your et if your still at stock wheelbase

try putting one of your stock gears back on (front or rear) next time and see if that helps.

Thanks for the info guys. I was at +2 in the rear and when I took the bike out for a test ride with it lowered I found it hard to launch without just raping the clutch (which I didn't want to do), That's why I went -1 in the front so that I could get into the meat of 1st without working the clutch so much.

I forgot to pay attention as to what rpm I was at after a shift. I can bet that it was a bit too high though, especially without a full system to get that high end hp.

Anyways, next time I'm really hoping for 9's.

:D

when i went 9.9 at 143 i was lowered and straped with my slip on and i was just ripping my clutch trying to get that 1.70 60ft. as soon as i went 1.7 60ft i was in the 9.9. but after that night the clutch was gone. after tear down found that the fibers still look great but the metals were trashed. soo give it plenty of cool down even take off your oil cap between runs and once the metals are cooled down rip on it some more. i did the best holding it about 5000 and then just pinning it as i slipped the clutch and then just sliding up the tank as the front end came up in 1st.

Another tip on this:

Before AND after a run, lean the bike over on its right side for about 30 seconds, and let oil flow into the clutch more. I cannot tell you how much this extends clutch life. Its a good habit to get into, I thought it was total BS, until I tried it.
