I am buying my first bike soon and i was thinking about a sv650. i saw one at a local dealership today (2001 sv650 with 1700 miles for 4800, sold last year as a leftover) and i wanted to check out some fairings for it. i won't buy anything right away, i want to get some miles on first, but i want to have an idea of what i can get before i buy the bike.

who has good looking front and side fairings?

and who makes clip ons for the sv, i'd like to lower the grips a bit and move them forward?

thanks

I assume you are looking at a naked model. If you really want a fairing I would suggest paying a couple of extra bucks to find an 'S' model. If you are dead set on fairings I suggest Sharkskinz. you will find that they are a bit more pricey than others, but they fit and the quality is good, period. Some places make GSXR bodywork that adapts to the SV, but it looks like an umbrella in front of the bike, since the SV is half as wide as the gixxer. 2 Wheel Junkies also makes a good set for the SV that looks a lot like the 's' model, but with a lower. Personally I don't like that look, but that is just me.

Whatever you do,

1. don't go for the cheapest stuff out there, because you get what you pay for.
2. Stock bodywork is best and cheapest for the street ('s' model)
3. Aftermarket bodywork with some kind of paint will cost 1k or more, take that into consideration.

oh, and for clip ons, I used Woodcraft. the 2 piece design allows them to be installed or removed without having to drop the fork legs or remove the upper triple, well worth the $150.

All that said, I do suggest the SV, it is an awesome bike that will teach you how to ride circles around those big gixxers, without getting you killed in the process.

thanks for the advice. the only reason i was thinking about the non-s model is because i found the bike i mentioned in my initial post for what i think is a good deal. if i end up having the cash to buy new, i'll definitely get an s tho.
thanks
