Just picked up my new black/silver '03 600 today, and thought I would finally register and say Hi!

I traded in my Kawasaki ZX-6, and I'm not looking back. This bike is F$%^$% awesome. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I was thinking the same thing! What is the torque spec for that bolt?

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm not sure what the biggest addiction is? Wanting to ride it all the time, or wanting to spend money on it! There are over $1000 worth of things I already want to do to it, and it's only been 1 day!

Take it easy,

Ok guys:

Fender: Chopped (right below the blinkers)
Front reflectors: Gone!
Useless stickers: Gone! (except the big one behind the fairing, it's gonna be a bitch)

So what's my first mod? Dark windscreen? Double Bubble? Hugger? Akrapovic bolt-on?

Welcome to the board. What part of Houston are you from? I'm from Splendora, but my parents are looking to move to the Kingwood area. I wish I had money to do mods. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I'm doing the TRE mod over spring break and that is about it. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif E mail me for a donation to the "mod Chad's bike" fund http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I live in North Houston (1960 & 45). Once my house is done, I'll be up near the Woodlands.

Yeah, if you have a way to increase my mod fund, let me know! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm over in the Spring area a lot. I have an aunt and uncle that live off of 2920 in Normandy Forest and another aunt and uncle that live in Lexington Woods (where I'm at the most).

Welcome.
Your new bike looks wicked. First mod? Get a bolt on muffler so cages can hear you in traffic and it also brings a smile to your face every time you rev her.
Be safe. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/punk.gif

Thanks. Yeah, I want the Akrapovic bolt on....just need to "find" $450!

AggieGixxer: My friend is about to buy a new Busa. We'll have to get together and ride sometime. I know sometimes guys meet and the Hooters on 45 and 1960.

The ZX-6 was a good bike...It got me used to riding a 600 without the aggressiveness of a supersport.

Trust me, I love it already...It's a badass....and I haven't even passed 7000 rpm yet! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As for the aesthetics, that is totally personal taste you know? For performance, I'd say bang for the buck you'll never beat going up 2 teeth in the rear. You'll be amazed at what you'll immediately feel in the seat-of-the-pants for $50. Utilize this board's classifieds to list your stock sprocket, and you could probably make $10-$20 back. As for the slip-on, you may think it hypocritical as my bike is piped & jetted, but man being quiet is a GOOD thing. When you come on the cam with a piped bike; man that shit carries! Cops and civilians alike can hear you for miles. No they can't stop you for hearing you, but it just gives them a reason to be on the look-out. That whole "loud pipes, saves lives" bit is not a belief I subscribe to. Cages are going to threaten your life on a daily basis regardless of ANYTHING. They will not hear you, regardless of how loud your bike is. They will not see you, regardless of how bright your lights are. Most of them even if they do see & hear you will disregard your 500 pound mass anyhow. Your bike's inherent abilities, and your ability to manipulate it is the only thing that is going to save your life. I drive my bike as my solo transportation at least 50 miles a day, and very rarely does a day pass that I DO NOT have to evade an accident. Agreed I live in South Florida, home of the blue hairs, but still people in general don't respect motorcycles. Honestly, I'm not trying to bash after-market exhausts. I mean come on. They're gorgeous, most of them have absolutely mesmorizing exhaust notes and they increase performance. It's just that $450 can buy alot of gear, goodies or whatever. And honestly, a slip-on alone is only going to increase HP & drivability in such a minute way that it's almost not worth it unless you have the cash to blow. I mean obviously its you that deems this or that "worth it", but the bike is brand new, you know? Why not consider breaking it in, maximizing what you have and then when it's not enough you've got that option waiting for you.

Whatever you do, congratulations on your brand spankin new ride... she's gorgeous! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Keep the pics coming, too. I'm sure I can speak for us all when I say that we'd love to follow her progress. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Thanks for the welcome!

Melampus... Thanks for the advice. I think the only thing I'm going to do immediately is to get a dark windscreen. Probably a Lockhart or a ZG. I would like to check out that new Sportech black chrome, but I don't want something too flashy.

The TRE mod also interests me. But I wonder what the effects of fooling the computer has on the bike in the long run.

As far as a pipe goes...I just want it for looks and a little more sound. My friend had an Akrapovic slip-on on his ZX-9R and it sounded awesome without being too loud.

And the Akropovich is so frigin gorgeous! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bounce.gif Isn't it.

I have the Lockhart "speedscreen" with the little up-turned lip at the end. I like it as it raises the wind blast a little w/o that huge "double-bubble" design. Yes it's not as effective, but if the wind bothers ya', get in the tuck...right http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif The one quirk is you can't look through the 1cm of the screen where it curves, but that's nothing. Have fun brother! I can't wait to see the pics w/o the fender, the reflectors and with the can "coming soon"!

Hey, Nice 6'r You'll love it. Does anyone know of any races in the northwestern states? I've been searching for some track time and can't find it anywhere up here. Thanks.
