Here's another SV1000S review (also in southern Spain)
http://bikepoint.ninemsn.com.au/reviews/BikeTestmain.asp?bikeID=118677
The review speaks about a tendency to run wide, which they cured with a little less preload at the front. Knowing the rather soft (and progressive) fork springs on Japanese sport bikes, I think it might be a better idea to increase rear preload, especially for mid to heavy weight riders.
The running wide stuff can easily be dealt with by giving the forks half a turn more rebound.
Anyway everything I read about the new SV sounds good. Some say fuel consumption sucks, but there's still PowerCommanders available.
Rider position also looks good. I own a gixxer 750 now, which is too heavy on my wrists on long runs.
Below I took a pic of a yellow GSX-R750 and placed a blue SV1000S on top of it as a 60% transparent layer (photoshop). Both pics were resized to make the rear wheels match. You can see that the bars on the SV are slightly higher and more backwards. Also important is the lower and more foreward seat.

I hope I can get my hands on one for a test ride soon ! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
