Is a 520 chain worth getting if you like doing wheelies?

it will hold up fine. most high quality chains like DID will have a 520 model with the same tensile strength as a 525. so no worries. just be sure to get a new STEEL rear sprocket..

You wont have any problems with a 520. You will have to replace it more often but then again it is cheaper.

wtf.... replace it more often... i stunted with a 520 conversion for 10,000 miles and just keep up maintainance on it!

Yes, the 520s wont last as long as a 525 or 530. Sure you can get 10000 miles out of one but in your case you could have gotten 20000 out of an o-ring sealed 525.

a good 520 chain like the DID ERV3 will outperform the stock 525 anyday......its stonger, lighter and has a greater tensil strength than the stock chain

I just did the 520 conversion and I LOVE IT!!! If you like wheelies I would say get it! Some top speed is sacrificed but our race track here in Hawaii just closed down so no need for all out top speed anymore. Go with the 520. You will agree it's the shit.

520 is the most common pitch you can buy when doing any type of conversion

You seem to be in the same state of mind that I was in before I finally got my 520 conversion. You want to get it but you think it will sacrifice too much top end on the bike. You like wheelies and twisties at the same time. I know I know. ME TOO!!! :) I ride on the highway almost everyday and I can tell you it's not too bad. The engine screams a bit more but it's not bad. 6th gear 7,000 rpm reads 80 on the speedo. The speed reading becomes more off calibration because of the sprocket changes but I recommend getting a speedohealer or the yellow box or the miles will rack up on you. I read somewhere the speedo is about 18% on the optimistic side with a-1/+2 setup. Hope this helps:cheers

No. The 520 chain will not help with wheelies. A gearing change, on the other hand will.

i did the 520 -1 conversion helped wheelies and didnt lose so much top end that i'd notice i was still hitting 150 + no probs didnt try to max it out after the conversion.

OH shoots.... I am talking about the -1+2 sprocket changes with the 520 conversion. Sorry about the mix up. I also went out today and did an indicated 125mph. This was at about 11,000 rpm. I guess I could go up to a speedo reading of 150 or so.

did any of you notice a great change in gas mileage, because right now with i guess the stock gearing and chain, I get about 140-145 miles per tank.

thinking about getting a 520 conversion... what would you guys recommend... -1+2 or -1+3? and why?

140 -150 miles per tank? haha what do you fill up at bone dry?

130 is best for me

matters in what you do.
-1 +2 or -1 +3, they aren't to terribly diff. you can do bascially the same stuff stock, its up to you

is there any disadvantages in getting two different aftermarket sprockets... example: afam in the front and sprocket specialist in the rear?.... just in the fact of getting good prices on them

most 520 chains come with 120 links... for the -1+2 520 set-up, how many of the links are actually used?

kazuma

i went -1,+1 with a 520 chain and took off a few links to match stock length

if you do the 520 conversion & go +2 in th rear you dont need a speedo healer & thats about the same as a -1 in the front

if i was you go 520 and add like 2-3 on the rear leave the front alone, that should be good i went extrem with 15.52 so that is about 10 extra and its crazy i wont even clutch at all in first so depends on what you want!!!

I dont notice and different in wear from a 520 to the 525
