: New to the board and to bikes
GSXR600squid 02-22-2003, 12:51 AM i just wanted to say whats up people? i am now a proud owner of a brand new 2002 GSXR 600. just took delivery of it 2 days ago. i am pretty new to bikes. after reading on here oday i see recomendations on not getting a race bike and stick with an sv650 but i realized this a little to late. after riding this bike i wouldnt even want to ride a 750 or 1000. i could only imagine how quick those hings are. now only if the snow would melt as you can see in the picture behind my bike. i live in Louisville, ky but i am currently in Lima, Oh going to school. does anyone live in or around either of the two.

Sergeant Nic 02-22-2003, 12:58 AM welcome to the board. Nice choice of bike. I've got the same one. A few things for ya.
-It's winter time. So for you snowbirds you get all kinds of time to mod the shit out of your bikes. Here's a short list that I would suggest.
-Hack off that mud flap. Cost $0.00
-Remove those reflectors. Cost $0.00
-Do the TRE mod. Cost $10 if you do it yourself, $35 if you buy it premade.
As far as how quick a 750 or 1000 is. You learn to ride that thing real good and they'll have a hard time keeping up with you in the curves. Just gotta stay away from the straights. Lots of usefull info on this board. Ride safe. And wear your gear.

DeeOne 02-22-2003, 01:02 AM Welcome, nice bike you got there.
Just take it easy and DONT let the presure of riding with more experience riders take you to levels that you are not ready for. If you can manage to stay within your limits you'll be fine.
you will also pick up some good tips here and there, http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
jay0321 02-22-2003, 01:32 AM Welcome...You will become an addict to this site.
Dingo3243 02-22-2003, 11:11 AM Welcome! If you take it easy for a while you'll be fine on that bike, contrary to what some may say. I had a 600 as my first bike(albeit a slower one) and I was fine. Full face helmet and a good pair of gloves are key! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
welcome, you are going to love it, I have the same bike. It isnt the best starter bike, just learn to respect it, it will bite back. Read around here and it will help as well. Take her slow, good luck. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Oh yeah..welcome to the board http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/flipa.gif
oh yeah, take a Motorcycle Safty Course before anything else. and get some frame sliders, not saying your goin down, but just incase!
natas 02-23-2003, 12:18 AM Nice looking ride, just listen to what alot of others are saying and take it easy for awhile. Ride how you feel comfortable and don't worry about what other people think, and your skills will improve. Good Luck !
GSXR600squid 02-23-2003, 10:15 AM thanks for all the compliments. i cant ride it yet because i havent bought my gear. but once tax returns come in i will finally be able to ride it. like it matters there is like 6 or 7 inches of snow on the ground right now. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/plthumbsdown.gif

IdealRide 02-25-2003, 10:19 PM I got a 99 GSX-R600 a couple months ago and its my first bike too. Everybody says you will lay your bike down one time or another, but I didn't get the privilage of that yet, I had a friend do it for me. I let a guy from work take it out and a guy pulled in front of him, next thing I know he is calling me to come with a truck and pick up the bike, its getting a new paint job and upper fairing now. Don't let anybody ride that thing. Damn this sucks http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif
