I remember back in my hometown 10 years ago I used to leave my helmet just hanging from my old bike when I went to to the mall or wal-mart for toothpaste. Now thinking about it I put out some serious cash recently for a new bike and a new helmet there is no way in hell I would do this today, even more so in my more populated area.

My squidly question -- what exactly do you peeps do with your helmets when you go in to a store or whatever? Thanks.

I carry my helmet in with me. Too much money to throw away, and around here, you can't ride without one so if it was stolen I'd be really screwed!

I dunno if the Gixxes have this, but the SVs have a hook on each side underneath the rear seat. I use a steel cable with an eye on each end, loop it around the chin bar on the helmet and onto one of the hooks. Of course the seat can be pryed off, so if I'm in a higher risk area I use a chain lock around the swing arm and rear wheel anyway and just chain the helmet. Sometimes I just take the helmet with me - that way less people wonder about my race suit...

I have been wondering the same thing. I decided I am not going to get one of those locks that you bolt to your frame, I havent seen any that look good enough to do that. I think I am going with the carry method. Last year I had a cheapy so I left it with the bike, but not this year.

Yeah the Gixxers have the hook underneath the seat, but I take mine with me. It's no big deal to walk around with it (It helps explain the leather jacket to idiots anyway), and besides I am too lazy to keep taking off the seat/solo cowl.

Cuz, let's face it. when you go into the mall and you get the "Yo, dog...you got a bike?" you gotta fight back that "No, my Civic is just so fast with the new coffee can exhaust I put on it, I have to wear a helmet"... Or the "yeah, it's a huffy 10 speed, mean son of a bitch when she's in first gear"

i carry my helmet with me also cause i also paid a nice chunk of change for it and would be pissed if some1 stole it. i ride my bike a to school and carry my helmet around to every class. i will never even second guess doing it now because i witnessed something very tragic last week. i was rollin up to the bike parking lot at school, and i see this kid grab some dudes helmet off his cruiser, and run off the the little elevated lot and jump into an old school van and they took off. i was like shit, and was paranoid to even leave my bike their. i even checked on it between classes. but i also have a Xena disc lock/alarm so im comforted just a little.

I never leave my helmet with the bike I ALWAYS take it with me . I live in a collage town and one of my friends would always leave his helmet with the bike and one day we came out of Wal-Mart and he put his helmet on and water came pooring out of his helmet . I usually take my helmet with me because your can't ride home if someone steals the helmet. My friend uses the helmet lock on his bike though.

I always carry it with me, Nolz one of the gixxer members had his on the bike helmet lock but the strap was cut and he lost a carbon fibre axo helmet..

Hell if you are wearing an Arai or other good helmet take it with you. If you have someting else just leave it there nobody wants it anyways.

It's nothing for someone to cut whatever you secured your helmet with. I usually wear mine into the stores. You never know when something might come flying off the shelves and hit you in the head. Thats when im glad im always wearing my lid.
