: 06 GSXR 600 or 06 R6?

Next week I am planning on picking up a 06 GSXR 600, but I am having second thoughts on this bike and the dealer I am buying from is also a yamaha dealer with a black 06 R6 in stock. The 06 GSXR has received some less than stellar reviews compared to the R6. MCN news said the GSXR suspension is soft and the motor lacks the excitement of the R6. I have not read cyclenews but they ranked the bike 5th and MCN ranked the bike 4th, not very good for a totally redesigned bike. They also say the R6 turns better and has better suspension. So what do you guys think? Should I go for the R6?

Unless you're a championchip winning club racer, you're probably not going to notice the difference between the bikes.

Buy the bike that you want first. Buy the bike from the people that treat your best second. :)

for me it depended on comfort, this bike wont be my racebike. The seating position and seat on the r6 was not for me, and i'll be riding the bike 150 miles a day, so i went w/gsxr.. no regrets, all these reviews are done by professional racers, most of their complaints normal riders would never notice anyway, just my 2 cents

I looked at both also actually, I am not a skilled enough driver to be able to deliver differences... so I bought the GSXR, I just think it is a better looking bike and more comfortable. But then.... I have always been a GSXR fanboy lol, love the bikes, they have never let me down.

You should see the Dyno charts compared before you do that. Also the R6 sits REALLY high, the Gix 6 is actually lower than before.

I agree completly I had the same problem I was looking at a Yamaha/Suzuki dealer and walked in with every intention of picking up an R6. I sat on the R6 and I didn't feel right. I felt cramped up and uncomfortable. So I tried out the GSX-R600 and felt right at home, the feel of the bike for me is very natural and I feel a lot more in control than I did on the R6. I picked up my GSX-R a few days later at another dealer that didn't have $1050 worth of fees on top of MSRP, I actually got it for $8400 before tax and title. And like the others said unless your using it as a dedicated track bike you would probably never feel the difference in the bikes.

If your worried about what the mag's say then buy the GSX R750, MCN rates it a better all round package than the fireblade or the R6.;)

That and a gix750 will cost just as much as a raven R6 anyway. About 9K+ out the door.

Thanks for the replys. I am 90% sure I am going with the GSXR. More mid-range, more comfortable and better looking. My dealer also says suzuki is way better with warranty issues than yamaha. Thanks again.

i went to the dealer expecting to get a r6. i wanted one bad actually, even after seeing the new gsxr. but the seating is aggressive. and if i was a trackday junkie, i would of been all over the r6, but point is, ive never been on the track even though i would like to. when i finally do get to a track day/school, im sure that my gsxr600 will be plenty of bike to keep me content.

ive also heard that the r6 is a dog to drive around town. that is has almost no power until the upper revs. i havent ridden a r6, but i love that the gsxr has lots of low end/mid range power, atleast more than i expected.

long story short, im very happy i went with a gsxr instead of the r6. either way, all the supersport 600's are so close in performance, you probably wouldnt notice but so much on either one, and youll reach your limits far before youll reach the bikes.

I actually think the R6 looks better. But as weird as it seems, I have become a loyal Suzuki customer. The first bike I ever owned was an 03 600, and the last bike I ever own will be a Suzuki.
I put 12,000 miles on that 600 in little over 4 months of the summer...not one single problem. I can't bring myself to buy another bike, because I trust the Gixxers.

As far as really comparing the 2 bikes....they are so close in performance, I doubt it really matters. It's the rider in my book, that makes a bike what it really is...Put Matt Mladdin on a Yamaha, Honda, Ducati....it doesn't matter...he will still win!

get the one you fit in better or the one you like the best. both are great bikes. people are saying the gixxer is a better street bike.

As it has been mentioned, go with what appeals and has a comfortable feel for you. Personally I'd go for the gsxr over the R6 for a few reasons:

1 Gsxr is cheaper than R6(mise well get a 750 for the $$)
2 I just can't stand the 1 headlight on low beam crap:wtf
3 You'll have to install new turn signals on the rear of the R6 after you discard the
Star Trek lookin mud flap shat.
4 You get a seat and a cowl with the gsxr, R6 just a seat...:flipoff

Don't get me wrong, my buddy has an 06 R6 and It's a great bike, I loved it till I got my 750.

Your salesman doesn't know WTH he's talking about. The R6 is turning out to be a bitch to set up and it's gonna suck on the street. Overheard a conversation with Thermosman and he recommended the GSXR over the R6 for club racing. Best believe that is about as qualified a recomendation as there is in this country.

The r6 was on my list as well but after sitting on it, seeing it race, the specs and the nightmare of setup I decided it's not for me especially at that price.

the r6 is a pure race machine. soo if you are racing then the r6 is for you. I had the same problem. The first time I took the G-6 to bear mountain, I fell in love. sweet handleing, good brakes, great seat position awesome throttle response, great mid, the suspension is not too soft, shit, the list goes on. indeed, the is a great machine, and I hated gixxers, up until now.....

As much as 20hp down in some spots in the midrange. That's alot to give up on a 600. Anemic midrange and an overall fugly looking bike I think from the front cowl to the tail. So yeah, unless you spend the majority of your riding above 12Krpm, I think the Gixxer will suit you better.

So true, I was dead set on getting a R6 like had cash in hand when I went into the dealer, but after I felt the riding position and how the controls felt I was about to still get it untill the dealer wouldn't answer any of the questions reguarding how it did up against the Gsxr6 and how he kept on askin me to fill out a credit app. So yea it all depends on how the bike feels and how well the dealer is on workin with you.

They are both nice, but the truth of the matter is that
the Triumph 675 has gotten 1st place in every single shootout I have read this year, US and GB.
Usually the order goes like this:
1sr 675
2nd gsxr
3rd & 4th CBR600RR or ZX636
5th R6

Every single test has had the R6 last and unrideable due to no power below 11K and too agressive position with a tempermental Fi delivery (probably due to the huge intakes....that is why they had to add the FBW system, so I am not sure I follow what some say
Now it has gotten one 1st place for a track test only that I read, but so has the Triumph again !!
The GSXR seems to be getting 2nd place all the time, but not loosing to the R6.
I like all of them, but I love mine..............except for the Fi light thingy.
So if you trust the British, want to wheelie easie off the throttle and have unique looks...........just buy the triumph 675.................HA HA

I have allways been a kawasaki man as I have stated on here before, but I was lucky enough to test ride the R6. gsxr, zx6r and cbr600rr. The most comfortable without a doubt gsxr. most uncomfortable r6 and cbrr both feel like your sitting on the top yoke holding the spindle, best sound gsxr , best looking gsxr, best value gsxr, and now at last, good finish and build quality. R6 is like riding a two stroke.and just seemed like hard work.If I had not gone for the gsxr, I would have got the kawasaki but the gsxr, I fell in love with and it just gets better !

+1000 on what everyone said so far...ill just add this:

so cali prices when both were released here in LA:
r6: $10,900 otd (January release with deposit made few months earlier)
gsx-r600: $9,500 otd (March released, please dont flame about how cheap it is in so cal NOW)

when i went to dealer to talk about r6 and gsxr difference...dealer even told me, unless your track oriented and sponsored, then get the r6...otherwise, gsxr is bang for the buck much better...never heard of a dealer try to save me money and lose commision before...

+ no other bike had me at bookstores looking up magazines for 4 months just trying to get info and pictures on it...(& websites)...gsxr is the way to go!

Personally,

I think the CBR is a beautiful bike, but WAYYY too expensive. The R6 is just fugly to me. I just got my k7 600 Gix for 8400, but they were still wanting 9500 for k7 cbr 600's. Crazy! I agree the suzuki is a better deal and overall value and I love the mid range power!:cheers

The seating position and seat on the r6 was not for me

+1000

I sat on an R6 at my the dealer where I bought my K7 from and it was so uncomfortable. As everyone else is saying, get what you want. Not what a magazine tells you is "better" Unless the magazine is a like a Consumer Guide and they say that the vehicle has countless problems. Then that might be a reason to avoid a vehicle.
