The weather finally warmed up enough to get out for a good ride (150 miles) this morning. Along the ride I seemed to have a gear position indicator malfunction. During one 15 minute section of the ride I was in 2nd and it read 6th then when I upshifted to 3rd the display went blank. There was another time when I was in 4th and downshifted to 3rd and the neutral light actually popped on. After that little 15 minute glitch I rode another hour and everything worked fine. Guess I'll keep an eye on it and drag it back in at 1K miles if it's still having issues.

I think there was another rider here who had a similar problem, don't remember his name.

Yeah first time I went out mine said 2nd when I was in 1st. I've been watching it closely and have not noticed it doing it anymore.
when changing gears, you should do that smoothly, i'm taking more about lowering gears, it is not just stop in 4th and then lower gears , but lower gears while still driving with little motor braking... i noticed that if you lower gears otherwise, gear indicator messes up...

If I did that on a GSX-R750 I'd expect the Suzuki police to come and take my bike away for inexperienced riding and replace it with a SV650 instead.

Not all gixxer riders are maniacs. :)
Some of us are responsible riders who do everything properly.
so what are you saying, that changing gears like this is wrong?

I'm saying if I was stopping in 4th then trying to shift from 4th to 1st with a foot on the ground I shouldn't be on a GSX-R750. Engine braking and down shifting to first before stopping is a skill that should be learned on a starter bike. The only downshifting lesson that should be learned on the 750 is getting used to less engine braking due to the new slipper clutch.
