I am 18 and in august im leaving for the air force. I really want to buy a bike while im in, i was looking at gixxer 600 or 750 as a step up from my ninja 250. Do you guys think it is a smart decision to buy a bike before i go into the service or should i wait till i get out. And i might be stationed in the UK. Thanks. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/punk.gif

Why buy one now while in 4 years when you get out the technological improvements will be pretty substantial I imagine. NTM you should be able to save up a grip of cash by the time you get out to get whatever your heart desires.

Were you planning on taking the new bike overseas or just store it until you get out?

Man that is gonna be really really expensive. Customs costs, airfreight, brokarage are pricey.
Shit if you are in the UK, buy it out there. I am sure Ducati, MotoGuzzi, Aprilla are all cheaper over there compared to here.
hehe

I dunno, you might search into how you can ship the bike if you buy it here first to get a good handle on what you are looking at. Also I know Europe expecially the UK have really stringent rules regarding motorcycle license. You should definatly ask someone in the A/F how the drivers license works overseas for servicemen.

First off,
You have no idea where you're going to be stationed. The air force doesn't say, ok buddy, where would you like to go now that your 4 week summer camp is complete? And secondly,
TMO will pay to have your motorcycle shipped anywhere you get stationed. You are allowed a certain amount of weight depending on your rank and whether or not you are married. And a motorcycle ships as household goods. But, if you are financing your bike you have to get permission from your bank to take the bike out of the states.

Thanks for the thoughts jontflesh. It's always nice to know not everyone out there has bad things to say about the men and women who serve this country.
