: new 750 with some questions
06'750 04-04-2006, 09:14 PM First a little backround about myself... Yes I'm 17 yes I got a 750, No I dont wish to be lectured abot how I should have a smaller/older bike. I bought the bike with my money from workin the past 2 years, I pay insurance on my jeep, bike, ect so its not out of my parents pocket. I started riding dirtbikes/quads when I was about 7 and still have a cr250 although I havent had it out in the past year. When I turned 16 I got a 91' FZR600 with 2300 miles on it and put another 6k on it (its currently for sale if anyones interested, Located in PA) took the msf course last year and just wanted a new bike, had the money so I went for it.
Alright so I picked up my 750 about a week ago or 9700$ OTD and so far am very pleased with ithe 200 miles that are on it so far. Couple questions so far however, the first couple times it was drivin after shutting it off smoke was emmited from the exhuast.. no longer does that so I'm assume it was simply burning off some of the coatings from the factory??
Secondly, is the oil filter on the bike the same as past years by any chance or any other bikes as the stealership cant even seem to look up the 2006 and find the filter listed for it.. and if they cant even find the right filter theres no way in hell I would trust them to do a service on it. I'm fairly mechanicly inclined and know thats it not going to be a big deal to do myself so long as I can find an oil filter for it.... so part numbers or a place to order one cheap would be great.

All Suzuki dealers have Scat which is Suzukis online dealer network. All 06's are on there. The filter is the same spin on canister as the 1000 and the 1300.
Part number is 16510-03G00-X07

Yep thats the factory coating that you see smoking and smelling funny. Normal for the first couple hundred miles or so.
lexpression02 04-04-2006, 11:25 PM hey no problem man, no ones going to lecture you. you have a background with bikes and made the decision yourself, plus your payin for it. best of luck with the 750! im sure the smoke is just a new bike thing. where in pa you from? i used to live a couple miles outside of pittsburgh....
06'750 04-05-2006, 06:10 AM I live a few miles outside the Johnstown area.
thinkBIG 04-05-2006, 06:56 AM Did you change the oil yet, I am assuming no, by the filter question.

no not yet but I plan to as soon as I get the filter so most likely it will be before any more miles are put on it as its supposed to be sub 40 degrees with rain and chances of snow for the next week:o I figure after spending every dollar I have on the bike I plan to not take any chances as far as maintenence goes
Cestode 04-05-2006, 12:32 PM Suzuki has not changed they're oil filter in years. example the filter from my 01 750 fits on my 06. the 600's and 100's are the same. CHANGE YOU'RE OIL!!!!!!
MotoMummy 04-05-2006, 02:55 PM cestode: that's why scott's reusable filter works on all suzuki's...some pretty trick filters also. just put one one a guys bike here...think i'm gonna move to one also.
Cestode 04-05-2006, 03:20 PM Yeah I've been thinking of buying one. Changing the filter after every race weekend got expensive last year... Plus the practice trackdays
06'750 04-05-2006, 07:31 PM rather than start a new thread I might as well put this here and hope people still read it... how many of you change your suspension settings from stock? As everyones different I know everyone would benefit from changing the settings from stock but is stock "good enogh" for most of you? I guess I'm not sure if its worth messing with? I weigh 155 and about 6 ft tall if it makes a difference

Right now I am of the mind set that stock is good enough for me but the honest truth is I am overwelmed by the all the adjustments and all the possible wrong adjustments. Call me chicken...LoL

Hey, that's the same filter I have on my 2002 SV650!!!
BTW, I think most people know better than to lecture someone who has been riding dirt bikes for a decade, whether he his 17 or not :) :) :)
The stock suspension should be able to handle your 155 lbs with no problem for street riding. Set the correct sag then play around with the other adjusments to make the ride to your liking.
Just write down how many screw turns you are giving it, like that it's easy to go back if you don't like the new setting. With that many adjuments on modern bikes, it's real easy to screw up and have the bike handle like crap
06'750 04-07-2006, 03:56 PM Just wanted to drop a line and say thanks for the advice so far. This site seems to have a suprisingly good group of people on it when compared to alot of other motorcycle forums I've been to. I think I see myself being around here for quite awhile. Now I just need to find a buyer for my old bike..ughh I hate going through the trouble of selling stuff......
