The guy at the dealership said the first service was the most important. Why?

According to the manual you are supposed to have the first service at 600 miles. Mine's at 1200 miles (just couldn't get off it after I got it :))

its most important casue while the engine parts are setting alot of metal is gonna be runing in the motor....so its good to get it out. ur motor is fucked now !! good JOBB!!....jk prob wont have any problems but i wouldnt have taken the chance, it might void your warranty.

they will check the bolt's, adjust the clutch, chain, change the oil/filter. it is probley a $60 bill...........totaly worth it. I changed my oil after 100 miles for the first time. Dude get it done

By the way did you oil you chain yet........every 600 miles

lol 1200 'in the break in'? ya right... you so know this guy road that thing as hard as he could.... so twice the amount of miles over plus taking it past 8k rpm = have fun 5 months from now

seriously though, the first service is very important... my dealership is even having me bring mine it for a complimentary inspection at 300 miles, first service at 600

I called a few dealers and the first service is more like a $200/$250 bill. Pretty expensive for an oil change and a few adjustments, but I bought a service plan so that will lower the cost some.

Anyways, I'm changing my oil and filter sometime between 50 and 100 miles, then I will bring her in for the 600 mile service.

Don't run your bike with all these metal particules going everywhere in your engine and clogging your filter, change your damn oil :hammer

Ok, I get the point that I shoulda done it at 600. I'll take it in ASAP this week.

I'm sure there is little chance that I've actually ruined anything.

I changed my oil with 133 miles on it and you'd be surprised how much metal is in the oil. I plan on changing it again at 500 and then going to synthetic at around 1000-2000.

Yup, I've ALWAYS done my own oil changes, except for the first service just to ensure that they inspected it for warranty purposes. But other than that I WOULD NEVER leave my bike with anybody, especially for an oil change.

Everyone seems to forget they check and adjust the throttle sync during the first service.

In case ya'll are still interested.. my baby is currently in the shop and I'll have her back in a few hours from now. Going 1200 miles didn't void the warranty and the service tech was more concerned about the clutch than shit in the oil.

Thanks for th panic attack all!

changed my oil today with 300 miles showing. There was some metal but overall less than I expected. Looks like the magnet on the drain plug caught a bunch of it.

:rolleyes .... man, I'm just sorry you even had to go through it! I did the exact same thing on my brand new '04 R6... That doesn't Void no warranty, man. And my bike ran fine. Wish I knew where that apparent myth came from.

actually it CAN void your warranty.

Not doing scheduled maintence can void your warranty, read the warranty and you will see. But if your dealer is not a dick, they will probably let it slide
