: Takin a shot at the Maxton Mile

This May 21'st I'm taking the Busa& my 1K to Maxton airport to try&become an official member of the ECTA 200mph club. It's a standing start 1 mile straight with a 1+mile shutdown area.I'm positive the Busa will break 200 but the 1000 may be a bit rough sittin at stock wheelbase from a standing start.Although I'm confident it would do it if given more then a mile.
Has anybody on this forum done Maxton???

OG i ran the maxton mile the weekend of april 1 and ran 212.7 on my dad's busa. If you haven't done this before it's not like you need to launch like a drag race. The timing doesn't start until the last 132' of the track. It doesn't matter how fast you launch although a better launch will help your trap speeds. The way i did it was: I would take off in first gear slowly and get in my tucked position. Switch into 2nd gear and roll the throttle to red line, now i roll throttle till it's pinned trying not to smoke the tire. Once the throttle is pinned i never let off just hit my shifts until i seen the trap. After the trap stay tucked and slow. When you are on the starting line it is best to start on the left side of center to straighten the curve as much as possible. Remember the straighter the line you take the faster you go. They have a few patches of asphalt on the track and i tried to go down the middle of these. When you first see the track it looks real rough but at speed you can't feel a thing. I would recommend practicing your tuck and maybe having someone take a pic of your tuck. Your a big guy correct? So it may be hard for you to get as low as others. I should be there in may again so i hope to see you there. Heres a pic of my dad on his bike.

Hey Ironhead, thanks for the heads up!!:cheers
I watched Nickslick's documentary he posted on LAB last week from when he went down the same weekend you did&it was very informative. It showed the curve that your talking about&everybody says to start on left like you&your father did.
I also saw the footage of Dave O going 219 with the tank cam, that was sick!!
What size engine is your dad running, and what gearing also if you dont mind telling me.I was thinking of going stock front&-1 or -2 on the back:scratch

If you go down,we'll definitely meet up with eachother,it'll be good to have somebody to talk to who's ran it before so I can get some pointers

I sent away for the official rulebook, but do I have to safety-wire anything???

Dave O built my dad's motor and it's a 1507 stroker. Dave was right there with me at the start line everytime giving me hints and tricks. He is a great guy. We were running and 18/40 but were wishing we had a 39 for the rear. In nicks video you see me at 3:00 going past him wearing leather pants white t-shirt and blue hat. I was just running it to the start line. You will have to safety wire quite a few things there is a good thread on suzukihayabusa.com about it. http://www.suzukihayabusa.org/forum/index.php?topic=60977.0

What has been done to your busa and what dyno numbers are you pushing?

In that pic of my dad his head isn't low enough and his ass isn't far enough back. I would suggest not running a seat, use a seat pan instead. When Dave O runs he isn't watching where he is going at speed he just looks up every few seconds. There is a pic of him where you can clearly see his eyes are pointed straight at the tank. I'll try to find it.

It's a 1430 Carpenter motor w/ a big valve head,pushin around 240rwhp.I have it set up at 64" with a drag seat,air shifter,etc...
I was going to run a Pilot Power rear.I'm also most likely taking the 200rwhp '05 1000 Lee built, but being that it's sittin on a stock wheelbase for the twisties right now,it's pretty hard to keep the front end down.
I'm going to bring a 18tooth CS,as well as 39&38t rear's with me too

Again,thanks for the tips bro:cheers
