Anyone with a 2006 750/600 have problems with their gear indicator showing a different gear? I rode my today (it was cold as hell outside) and it was showing 2nd gear when I was definately in 1st. I shifted to second and then down to first again and once I got some speed up it started showing 2nd gear again. It did this a couple times. Anyone else notice this?

I was paying close attention to mine today and didn't miss count once. I did however notice that there was a funny odor from the exhaust (thinking cataletic converter or maybe the paint on the pipe?). It was cold as hell here too but I couldn't let her sit another day with out riding her (750).

Yeah brotha I feel ya. I smelled that too. I just figured it's the new engine coating or whatever TECHNICAL term there might be for that.

When I got my K6 broken in today and 5 dyno runs, my exhaust did emit a odor. Its just a coating to protect the headers from corrosion. After a few runs, it was all good. Got mine dynoed at Moto Fuel in Menasha, WI.

Yep, my GTO had that too. Took a thousand or so miles to burn it all off.

Mine was reading 6th while I was cruising along at 65. I don't know why, but I decided to up shift and the indicator went blank and I thought I had found a special bike with a seventh gear. Fortunately, when I down shifted at the next stoplight it must have reset the indicator and I subsequently lost seventh. I was disappointed. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cussing.gif

I've been counting gears in my head for a long time now, so I don't think I'll ever use the indicator either. Hell, I don't look at the speedo often and shift based on feel.

Use the grey stuff between your ears, it should be much more reliable. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Its not like I don't know what gear I'm in. I was just asking if this is a common problem. I just bought the bike and everything in my opinion on it should work perfectly. If not I'm going to have it fixed when I take it in for it's first service.

I've notice that too. If I push down the gear shifter in first while holding the clutch the gear indicator shows second. Or sometimes starting off in first it shows second. It doesn't happen after 3rd gear. WTF compter issues or faulty sensors?

It's happened to me a lot lately, ever since I went +2 with the rear sprocket. I'm not that concerned though.

My does it when starting the bike after it's been sitting for awhile. I shift into 1st and the gear indicator blinks between 1st and 2nd until I shift into 2nd. Also my gears are stock.

Your selector is just a set of resisters with different values of restance. If it was really cold there resistance could be higher then normal, and give a different reading.

That makes sense but I live in South Florida and it's never that cold.

I live in TN and it hot as hell here right now and mine has been miscounting lately. But i know why mine is doing it.

I laid my bike down a few weeks ago, car pulled out right in front of me and instead of plowing them i laid it down, anyways i had to replace the casing on the left side, where the indicator sits, and ever since i have been having the miscounting, but mine is just in 1st and 2nd. I think i need to take the indicator off and put it back on just to make sure it is in the exact right position, i just keep forgetting to do it.

Was your bike stock when you Dyno'd it? Getting it tuned? (reason for the 5 dynos?) How much power did you make each pull?

Yeah mine does the same thing sometime.... showing 2nd when in first, anyone else have any input on it?

mine to, two weeks old was reading second all the time. Dealer replaced gear position sensor under warranty. It now reads 5th all the time due to TRE. Dont mind now, never look at it now.

Mine does the same thing, but I have -1 front. Not too worried about it though. Seems to only do it when its warming up. As long as it will rides the same :D

my bike has been sittin for a couple of week(bad weather). finally got it out today and the gear indicator was goin crazy for the first 50 miles. i think it just take a lil bit for everythin to reset properly when the bike hasn t been ridden. that would be my guess. either way you shouldn t rely on the indicator, listen to your engine.

When I had my k6 600 in for service this past week, I brought this to their attention because mine has been doing this for a while now. They looked at it and said nothing was wrong. Went out to the parking lot and started it up, instantly started showing 2nd when I was in first. Got the mechanics out there and they said it was no big deal and that there isn't really a sensor, it just is the computer reading the timing and resistance based off rpm - such as when you get the TRE it will always read 5th - It runs the timing as though the bike is in 5th basically all the time (?)
