: Tech Doc - a Lap around Eastern Creek
Steve 1234 02-17-2003, 04:56 AM Hey Dean,
I might be asking for a little too much here, but it could probably count as the next tech issue. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
You had good lap times around the creek (really good times). I'm asking for a comprehensive commentry on a lap around eastern creek raceway. Please. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif
Put us in your head as you do a lap around the creek. Where your turning points are, braking points, how much you brake for a corner, what bumps to look out for in which corner, what gear to be in etc etc. Which corners not to brake for, which to take unconventionally to get better runs out. What are common areas people go off and and why. If possible what gear you use on different bikes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The sort of stuff you think about in bed after a track day when you think about what would have made the better lap.
This will build up everyones confidence, not just mine....
Tech Doctor 02-17-2003, 05:22 AM Well, I'm actually going to be talking about it when we are at the creek. It will be easier there just after everyone has had a couple of sessions and are starting to get into the swing of it.
What I will say now is that set-up is very critical for the creek as it's a technical circuit, but not to the extent of Oran park. The smaller bikes make up a lot of time around the back of the track, while the bigger bikes make the ground back with the straight. The front straight (not like there's a rear straight) is the only place you can take a break and think about your next lap.
The most common places to come off are turns 2, 9 and 7. It's easy to go into 2 and 9 too hot and low side it. Turn 7 is the most common place for a high side as it is a very slow corner (around 80-90kph, but never looked) and it comes onto a wide flat bit if the track up behind corporate hill. It's very common that people get on the gas either too early, too hard while still lent over, or both.
As I said before, I'll be going through it all at the track after a few sessions. Hope to see everyone there. Everyone in W.A. got the NOS bottles ready?
Dean.
