I have heard of the power wheelie and the clutch wheelie. I know how those are also performed but whats with this pulling the bike up technique. Why is it when I watch some videos of people doing wheelie I looks as if the guys are snatching the bike up into the air?

First let me say, I suck at wheelies.

Ok, with that out of the way... from what I have seen, they are usually "bouncing" the bike, or pushing down on it to pre-load the front so it will spring up more easily when they power or clutch it up. Thus, when it does come up, it appears that they are actually pulling the bike up.

Note: I have also heard people much better at wheelies than I say that it is better to push with your legs, or sort of hop, than to push on the handlebars.

Hope that helps

I am not that great at them either, but I would have to agree. It looks like you are pulling the bike, but in reallity, you are actually bouncing the front end up, to get the hieght needed. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

Yes what you are seeing is the rider "bouncing" the bike up, meaning getting the suspension to compress and on its rebound, throttling it up. And it is done with the legs, more than the arms. There is little to no weight on the grips when doing this.

its more like pivoting the bike underneath you. The clutch does all the work but body position plays a big advantage.
The motion looks like your pulling the bike up but the clutch does it all while you lean back and lock your arms to better balance or bring the bike back.
