There are some things that would be done different with it being a lower capacity engine and the ability to rev higher and quicker.

If you are after midrange and top end, you can run a more radical profile cam with the higher revs. This 'can' let you run a higher compression than what you would be able to do with the stock cams.

There is no reason why you can't get around 117-120rwhp, and still have it 'fairly' streetable. The only problem with the 6 running that type of power is that the frame starts to get taxed in the handling department. You would want to get the front and rear suspension resprung and revalved to suit your weight, riding style and the increase in power.

Get some small washers or have a spacer made to lift the front of the tank by 5-10mm. The airbox will breathe a lot eaiser. Don't waste your time buying a K&N or any other filter for it. The stock one is the best by far. The aftermarket items cause more turbuliance around the throttle bodies, and generally loose 2 or 3 hp. Change the sparkplugs to the NGK C9EK items, or the denso equivelant.

I have to find somewhere where there is plenty of room to set up a dyno room, stripping area, assembly area, storage area, office area... You get the idea. It's not easy.

I'm going to try to have everything up and going in about 6 months. A bit late for the next racing season, but it's always the right time to do road bikes that run amuck on the highways.

After I get established, I want to set up a Busa for a world record.
The record?
Fastest speed by a road registered bike on a public road.
Current record is 326kph, and for the assault on the record, it has to be beaten by 10% to be accepted by the Guinness Book of Records mob.

I've got a mate with a Busa that has said when it comes time I can have a free reign on it. Can't wait for that one.

I've decided that before I open the shop for the general public, I'm going to have a Gixxer.com and an R1 forum day. Should be interesting. I'll have the dyno installed by then, so we can have a dyno shootout and what not. How does that sound?

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Grave thanks for the idea, i use those plugs normally in the gixxer and tl, so they will be same when the r1 has its real 1st service..

I have a friend that has done quite a bit on his own 2k2 R1, i dont know if u know of balls tuning in melbourne, but he is mechanic there, he been trying to make some ram air on the R1 , he has had a bit of success, but I will mention your idea with the tank, i have not even lifted the tank on my r1, so dont know how the airbox is setup.

How did you find the R1's reliability in general?

i have to admit that i usually get pretty awesome service at sydney city kogarah...
but i would much rather bring my bike to a small specialised shop run by someone i actually know rather than taking it to a big service department and being treated like a number... just my thoughts... graemlins/thumbup.gif

lift the front of the tank by 5-10mm <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">My mate does the same thing. graemlins/thumbup.gif Says it's a good mod.

As far as the shit fight goes. I don't have the background to call it either way but I have heard about the Radar Yamaha team successes.
The only way to settle it would be to both be stuck in an equipped shop with the parts each believes will do it for them and then let You both go for it. Then run them up on the dyno and the loser pays for the others parts. in other words put Your money where Your mouth is. I can't see that happening so I wouldn't worry mate..

Have any of you fella's heard of 'Hi-Point wheels'? Someone threw the name at me the other day, and I can't find any info on them.

I want to keep in stock things like penske and ohlins shocks, complete PFM brake kits, Dampers, Hi-Compression pistons (like JE & Weisco), Full systems (Pipes by order only, this is a power business), ECM's, cams, and maybe a nitrous kit and electronic controller.

R1 reliability is damn good. I have preped a couple of bikes for the castrol 8 hour at the creek, and not one have had a mechanical failure.

The '98 model had some gearbox problems (Detent spring breaking so it won't stay in gear).

All models seem to have a problem with 2nd gear shearing off the teeth, but I suspect that this is caused by clutching them up.

The tank mod works on all models inc carbed and FI.

One thing that I have forgot to say is to check that the forks are through the yokes the same amount. Yamaha are shithouse for doing it wrong.

Nitrous is cheap, leaves your bike streetable, and by far is the best bang per buck modification available on the market. A 600 engine, if set up right, would 'eaisly' handle a 60hp shot.

If you have enough mechanical ability, and could remove the head off the bike and re-install it, I'd be saying between $800 and $1000 depending on what type of kit you go for.

Not many people go for N2O on their bike for some reason, which I really find to be a shame. I'll be running it on the next 'stock' bike I get (ie. NOT the GSXR400/600 turbo hybrid).
