Typhon, yeah going for 02 R1.. trade in TLR and maybe gixxre or i might sell gixxer privately, TL needs forks redone, head bearing, valve adjustment (there notcheap on twins) and service too boot, I rode a R1 for a good distance via twisites and gixxer 1k after that.,R1 handled great and better brakes, also R1 feels more comfy for my short arse images/icons/smile.gif

Good on ya Campo, glad you've got your "next obsession" your sig has given me some ideas also, however the 2-up situation on the vtr's is the deal killer for me. If the missus can't ride at least as comfortably as on the gix then she's not interested images/icons/frown.gif We both would prefer better options for 2-up, the gix + 2up + hills = lots of pain for pilot. Lots of passenger leaning and pulling against person up front.

One thing I'm a bit confused about (sorry if this seems a bit dopey of me) is the diff between the sp-1 and the sp-2, is it age? I've seen adv's for the butt ugly white/black sp-2 (sorry to those reading that own one, my own opinion and all that images/icons/wink.gif ) but not the "rvt" red sp-1. Is is a limited/rr version? Can anyone point me to a writeup of the diffs between all 3 bikes. I think they are 3 different bikes, but all the writeups I've seen lump them all together.

The VTR1000 SP-2 is just the next version of the VTR1000 SP-1, and it comes in white, while. the older SP-1 comes in red Honda wing graphics.

IMHO, I think the white is much nicer, it replicates Colin Edward's Castrol Honda, and you even get an additional sticker kit with it, with the actual Castrol stickers if you want to use them.

The "RC-51" or "RVT1000" is the American marketing name for the VTR1000 SP1 and SP2 (they make no such distinction in the model name). It is so named "in honour" of past Honda superbikes, the RC30 and the RC45. However, it is not the true internal Honda model name for this motorcycle. Americans in their infinite wisdom images/icons/rolleyes.gif decided the RC-51 name would sell more motorcycles images/icons/grin.gif

In actual fact, the "RC" moniker denotes the engine size and type of motorcycle. R indicates an engine size of between 650cc to 899cc, while the C indicates a street motorcycle.

and that the rc51 was a race prepped one you can buy without all the street crap on it...
