Hey there Ockers! I was just over there a few weeks ago for my mates wedding. He lives on the central Coast at Bateaux Bay. Well I was 10-13 years old back in 1980-84 when I lived in OZ and haven't been back for 20 years since. anyway the city just blew me away how much it is just on steroids. a lot of little old terraced house areas are now really flash looking and the prices gone through the roof. I went and sat down below the opera house with a beer or 2 and looked at the harbour bridge and stuff, The sun was shining down which was pretty special and brought back some happy memories. Luna park was the only thing on that side of the bridge back then, none of those buildings/apartments etc. We went down the coast to Marimbula,Pambula for the wedding, my mates wife's from Delegate. Man I did'nt see any of the type of person I used to recall, y'know with the stubbies, thongs, singlet and beer cooler in the hand kicking back without a care in the world. I mostly saw people in a rush from here to there driving flash cars. Man, does that Australia exist anymore? Maybe I'll go have a look back up in Queensland some time. stayed in campbelltown with another mate(whoa nelly!) and stayed with another mate down in dipto near woolongong, driving in the trucks carrying coke, sand, coal etc. along the coast to port kembla. Anyways when did half the world move to Sydney? It was busy busy. Also hot too. had to keep well hydrated thank goodness for tooheys new and VB.
I noticed a lot of guys riding over there without the proper gear, it is hot though so I can sorta see why. Have a good new years all

heya kiwi...

i can understand what you are saying...ive lived smack bang in the middle of syd all my life and even i can see the way it has changed over the years...

as far as squids and no gear is concerned....yeah we seem to have an increasing amoutn of young and not so safetly concious guys out there now....but the real riders are up in the mtns or at the track...these other guys are our pool of spare parts images/icons/grin.gif ....not that i want them to crash or anything images/icons/tongue.gif !

sydney prices have gone through the roof and are getting to the point of being ridiculous!...and as far as tongs and stubbies are concerned, that has probably been pushed out to the fringes of sydney.

anyways...hope you had a good one with the wedding and all graemlins/thumbup.gif

It's pretty bloody scary isn't it!! I was over there just recently and it's to fast and to big for me. I can't ahndle it. My Dad has been living there all his life and the other night just admitted it's getting worse and worse. I love the rides on the outter limits of town but getting in there is just a joke!!

I was just thinking the other day - I don't suffer road rage anymore - And I don't on my bike .
But in a cage I just wanna either get away or kill every muthafucka on the road. I think it's 'coz I just feel trapped or something.
Plus time of year everyone is a fucking lunatic.

As far as the Sydney from yesteryear - yes I also miss it. I heard a saying once "Learn from the past - don't yearn for the past".
But fuck sometimes I wish things could be like they were... comes with growing up I s'pose.

From NineMSN ;

"A children's author who wrote a book entitled `Oz in Canada - a biography', modelled on the Wizard of Oz, is reported to be one of three men accused of masterminding Australia's biggest import of the drug ecstasy.

The Sydney Morning Herald says he is Canadian writer and environmental activist Carl John Hinke, better known in his home country as C.J. Hinke.

The paper says he is the author of a number of published works, which are relatively unknown in Australia.

It says 48-year-old Hinke has recently been residing as a tourist at Cronulla.

He was arrested by New South Wales and Federal police on Christmas Eve together with one of two other men also accused, Wayne Robert Moore, 52, of Sylvania.

Also arrested, in Bondi Junction, was Francis Ballis, 56, of Bondi.

Police believe they have cracked an international drug smuggling ring with arrests and the seizure of a record haul of ecstasy in Sydney this week.

Police seized 250kg of the drug, with an estimated street value of more than $45 million, in Australia's largest ever ecstasy haul"
