Whenever I see some guy riding a sick wheelie, some jerk always says "Sounds like he's depriving his engine of oil, ha ha ha"

Whats the deal with this? Is rididng wheelies like running the bike without oil? Is there an aftermarket kit to change the oil pickup location? Do you stunnas run into problems with your engines?


Or is this just an urban myth?

There is a verry good posibility of it happening. Watched a guy on a R6 do it within a half a mile. There are a few sites, that do make kits to supply oil for that reason. Although, all the stories I hear of it happening, seem to be Yami, but I would say it would happen to any bike being up long enough. I know honda is hard to tear up. my tl blew a motor. that was after 8000 miles. but just in case i got a oil pickup for my 750 at www.stuntex.com (http://www.stuntex.com) or www. stunters.com. now no worries

Yeah the oil does drain to the back of the pan which can starve the engine of oil.

That being said, i've ridden a shitload of 4 mile+ wheelies on my 04 600 and never had an issue....

Problem with the stuntex pickup is when you do a stoppie or even hard braking the oil moves too far forward. The stock pickup extends forward and down into the dished out part of the pan. The stuntex one only goes down to the back end of the pan. No mesh filter in it either. It's good for wheelies but anything else is bad. It seems like the stock pickup would be fine for wheelies but I've never seen any proof of that. I never see any oil level/pressure indicators with the stock pickup come on. Doing a stoppie with the stuntex brings both the level and pressure indicators on though.

Does anyone else know of a better pickup? Something like a clunk style pickup or something? I'm having the same problem. I can ride some nice several mile wheelies but anything else starves it for oil with the stuntex pickup.

I have the same problem with my stuntex and stoppies. I run an extra quart over but it will still come on when I bring the rear end up high. I just ignore it and hope for the best (I do have a spare motor waiting in the garage). The way I see it is that I would rather be running out of pressure when the engine is idling and under no load that when it is running at higher rpms and pulling.

I agree, thats why the stuntex is still in. No problems with running an extra quart of oil?

I have 8,000 stunt miles on this motor with no problems yet.

EDIT: Those are with a corrected speedo so it is actually 8000 miles.

Stuntex = good. (doesn't matter if the light comes on in a stoppie cause the engine is not working hard and I doubt anyone on here is doing a stoppie for any significant amount of time with the rear wheel up long enough to starve the motor.

Overfilling GSXR oil = very bad...don't do it (you can end up pumping the extra oil into the intake box through the crankcase breather and hydrolock or bend rods, etc)

I ONLY run Mobile 1 Truck and SUV in every vehicle I own including my motorcycles. It is one of the best oils you can buy, can be found for close to $20 for 5qts at Walmart. Anyone that tells you car oil is different or wont work or will make your clutch slip, etc. is full of it. Oil is oil. Quailty oil is better.

I am glad someone had some actual information and was willing to share that with all of us .it would seem that the oil light if it had to come on would be much less likely to cause damage to the motor idling on the front wheel with no load than ripping full throttle on the rear tire but I also was not thinking that it would be a good idea to over fill the motor a full quart!? yea fuck that I am sure that cannot be a good thing some people on here have said they run Hondas over but I think they have some sort of blow by or something incorporated so that this is possible anyways thank you again for the in put, some of us are actually in this for the information and not to act like complete ass munchers!

Chico the older GSXR's are especially suseptible to oil starvation...... if you are stunting on any GSXR prior to the SRAD riding long wheelies etc. sooner or later you are going to spin a rod bearing. Theres no guarantee that even the newer bikes won't have bearing problems either.....
