: Could a Dry Shot cause Glazing ?

I'm in the middle of rebuilding a GSXR1000.

It began to blow smoke and use oil.

I pulled it apart and the rings were letting a truck load of oil past.

It's only 20,000 K's old.

I'm wondering what could have caused it , and so suddenly ?

I ran it in fairly hard by most peoples standards and didn't go to synth oil unitl 3500 ks

I've run a few bottles of gas through it ( 40hp) and had the AF checked on the dyno.

I'm wondering if it might have run a bit lean on one run ?

Could this have glazed it ? Any other ideas ?

Thanks

how does the top outside land of your pistons look? Look around by the valve releifs...When you go lean, it gets hot and thats the first place that starts to pull up on the piston, as it gets close to melting...The first ring land to the top of the piston.

Thanks

They look ok , actually they look excellent.

The thing I've noticed since posting is that the rings seem to have lost their tension.

Just gapping the new ones and noticed it.

Anyone ?
