: Wheelie tire pressure?
obadgixxer1000 02-07-2006, 12:35 AM Im new to this so please excuse me for being stupid. I was wondering what you wheelie kings are running for tire pressure in the rear tire? The reason i ask is because all the bikes i see on stunt videos and video clips of guys riding long wheelies it looks like their rear tire pressure is low. Im thinking if it is lower it would be easier to ride a wheelie since your not riding on the crown of the tire so much it's more of a flat surface then a rounded one. Just a thought. Can anyone help with this one?
gimpsta 02-07-2006, 12:13 PM well if al u want to do is wheelies then sure. do the whole 18psi or what ever people might do, but thats mostly slow stuff.
i think around 30ish would be fine.
kern0079 02-07-2006, 11:16 PM In the lot I run 25psi and on the road 32. I run on the high side though. If you are just learning in the lot run 18-20 psi and on the road 25 psi. The low pressures give the bike a little more side to side stability but as the speeds go up it can induce wobbles. I run higher pressures so that It turns easier.
joshv5.0 02-08-2006, 10:18 AM i run 12.5, and love it. i just air it up to about 18 when i go hit turns

18? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wtf.gif Then you can't turn for shit because turning hard would most likely break the bead at that pressure... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bitchslap.gif
gimpsta 02-09-2006, 06:00 AM well some people "say" they hit twisties. Maybe he's running it at 18 hitting twisties but not going any faster around a corner than your gf would with her first time with the bike http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

hey say what you want, i just work in a lil rear break if i feel the tire flex in the turn
don't say it can't be done because it can

haha like i said - its just like those kids who crap their pants over their first wheelie (which is about a foot off the ground) and they think about looped it.
you can run 18 psi go ahead. Do you have any idea what "running hard" on a bike in twisties really is?
no
so its no my fault you really don't know what a lean angle is http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

hey man assume what you like, i don't ride with you or even know you so i promise i won't lose sleep. i'm just telling you it can and is done
gimpsta 02-13-2006, 12:14 PM no one said it couldn't be done
but those of us who actually ride twisties more than the straights, actually know whats best for performance and what is not. running 18psi on a street tire is going to keep you one place. in the back or on the asphalt, if you try and keep up with anyone with decent speed.

i agree 18 is defeintly not the ideal pressure for curves but i stunt and tote wheelies in all the straights we hit. for me 18 is a decent mixture between stunt and corner pressure. but i am never at the rear of the pack
gimpsta 02-13-2006, 12:58 PM i never said the rear of the pack - just behind those who actually know what they are doing and can actually handle corner speed.
18 is still dangerous. And a lot of guys run perfect wheelies w/o having to run 18psi

i don't race by the pack in a wheelie, i can actually hold one constant speed. are you able to do that? or are you doin 110 when you set the wheel back down? or can you even get the front wheel up for more than a second?
fuck all you assholes you have no idea how i ride. you just assume, so fuck it say what ya like. i don't know what kinda shit tires ya'll are runnin but i don't have any problems at all at 18 psi. like it or not
i invite any of you fuckers to come down to baton rouge,la and i will be glad to put you in your place

No, but I do know how tires react to pressure changes - and 18 psi WILL suck ass for handling unless you suck more at turning.
i don't know what kinda shit tires ya'll are runnin
Michelin Pilot Slicks, soft or medium 12/60-17 on the front, medium or hard 18/67-17 on the rear - on my Supersport Class race bike... Compounds vary according to track and conditions. My typical pressure would be 28-30 psi, again depending on conditions.
Yes, I do know a bit about tires and setup - and a bit about riding http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

gimpsta 02-14-2006, 12:14 PM and actually I enjoyed riding my 3rd gear stand ups on my 600 at 70 for a mile or so back in the day when I thought wheelies were what bikes were for.
now i suck at wheelies sure, but atleast I can admit it. But the reason I do suck at them, is because I grew up and realized there was much more to operating a bike with 2 wheels, then there EVER will be with one.
And dude, Baton Rouge is hardly known for its twisties. You want to call people out numbnuts? Come to Houston to Motorsport Ranch. Feb 24 - its an equal drive for the two of us. its a track day. It'll be fair because it'll be my first time on this track. You run your 18psi and if you don't wreck trying to keep me from lapping you on a 3mile track, I'll be impressed.
gimpsta 02-14-2006, 12:17 PM some how - I don't think you'll be there http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

are there even curvy roads in baton rouge? actually other then a lil power wheelie here or there comin out of a hard corner i dont wheelie because it doesnt prove jack shit on riding ablility. shit tires im running pilot power one of if not the ebst tires you can run on the street.
ok so you dont race by the pack you pull it up in the middle of the pack with everyone around you. you at the epitome of a http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif you risk your fellow riders to look kool http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif you sir are a jackass http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif

gimpsta 02-15-2006, 09:22 AM yes its the stunt forum - no one knocked you doing wheelies. It was when you mixed your complete control of running 18psi for your wheelies then ripping corners with it AND calling it the perfect pressure. WHEN indeed a lot of us KNOW your only going to kill yourself or someone else if you really start being able to pick up any speed.
so what about that trip over to Houston for the Track day??
