Last year was my first full year on a bike and I was using the stock tire until it was / is gone. A majority of the street bikes were using a Shinko 003. That is what I just bought and will be using this next season. Some have started using the Shinko Ultra Soft 003. Tire pressure varies depending on track condition. Pressure ranges between 9 psi and 22 psi. Our track has a free air station available to us, so I ride in at 35 psi and drop pressure to where it hooks best, and then refill when I'm done racing before heading out.

Stock wheelbase the regular Shinko will work very well for you,if you are xtended you will probably want to use the Shinko U-Soft,like rockin said air pressure will vary from your riding style to the track conditions, start off at 35 and just keep dropping a few pounds till you find the sweet spot. You want as much air as possible with out loosing traction.

I don't think that the shinko's actually hook up any better than the current radial, DOT-race compound sport-tires do... probly not quite as good actually... but they are W-rated (higher-speed than v-rating) and they last a long, long, long time in the burnout- stage- launch- repeat world. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

ok if you look at the profile of the shinko you will see why they are so widely used on strip bikes, they are veryyyyyyyyyyy flat.

Stock wheelbase bikes do indeed hook up pretty good with street DOT tires, like the Pilot's...
Anything more then 4" over & 220+rwhp they will not hookup consistently.
I had to take off a brand new pilot power when I went to 66" on my Busa cause it just spun all the way down the track once I got into 2nd gear.
I'm either gonna run the ultra soft shinko or the M/T

+1 , under 62'' WB and under 220 hp with good DOT tire like Metzeler rennsport or
Pilot Power make a great Drag tire.

I run the shinko 003 180-55-17 (not avalable in the u-soft compound).

Consistent 1.6 60' with 62" wheelbase and approx 625-650 lb combined rider/bike weight. I still need to get the bike lower, but I never have traction problems on a well-prepped track. It won't hook-up for s*it on the street or on a cold/un-prepped track.

Hey fast cat, what was your 60ft. times before you started runnin them SHINKO'S, and how long is your arm on the bike !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FastCat
02-05-2006, 12:26 PM
When I first started using the shinkos, the bike was at 59" (stock 89 frame with a stock 92 1100 arm). I was doing 1.7sec 60's with that setup - the shinko didn't improve or hurt my 60' over the Metzeler M1 that I was using before. The arm that's on it now is adjustable from +3 to +9 and I was running it at 62" (+3) last year. None of the local tracks are open for testing yet - we're still getting rained-on.

I am sitting about 64 inches and I weigh about 190 before suiting up and run the shink u-soft at around 15 psi and do not have any problems hookin on the street or the track. Oh and pulling 1.52-1.55 60 ft times with -1 down in the front and stock rear gear.

Thanks, Janie

OK, Logan hooked me up on the Shinko 003 Ultra Softs, call him if you need some tires. Rear in a 190 was $115 shipped and the front in a 120/70 was $60 shipped. His number is 1-800-646-7612. He might have the regular 003 Stealths as well but I didn't ask.

i found the 003 at tire express for like 151 for both a 120/17 front and 190/50 rear, plus 20 bucks for shiping. 170 bucks for tires aint to damn bad. clicky here (http://www.tireexpress.com/category.cfm?Category=2355)

Are you guys all running matched tires or are there certain fronts that work better, provide less rolling res, etc?

The Pirelli Supercorsa SC0 is one awesome drag tire. Thi is the one tire you can line up in the street at 62" without even heating the tire up... I do this on a regular basis at about 28 lbs. of air. Just roll up to the line and go! Try that with your Shinko. The Pirelli costs twice the price but you get what you pay for!

Shinko is an awesome all around tire, and especially awesome for drag racing. Great tread life, great everything.

I just am more hooked on the supercorsa, better hook, and I just get race takeoffs for free. They will last me 50+ passes.
