: How to position inside foot?

I have gone to the track a few times now and have kinda hit a wall. I can't seem to get my knee out. I get off the seat, but my knee wants to sit next to the bike rather than stick out. I have a feeling this may be due to the position of my feet on the peg. How do you more expierinced tarack riders postion your feet on the peg? Could it be a different problem?
Thanks, Scott

inside foot - ball of your foot on the peg.

you can get your knee down when your're only over 10 or 15 degrees if you really want - you've just really got to hang lol. i've done it while with my bike on it's side stand...

It may be that you're trying to lean before you position your foot which could make your toes stick further out and straight down. Try to move your foot back on the peg THEN shift your body to the inside. It may help. CHEERS!

My opinion, don't even think about getting your knee down as it can mess up your corner entry/exit or make you hang off more than is necesarry. The idea is to get around the track faster so If you're hanging off to get your knee down you're missing the point.

Don't force it. digging your knee into the ground doesn't make you go around the corner faster. Work on finding the smoothest fastest line through the corner, the faster you go the more you'll have to lean to maintain your line, your knee is just there as a feeler and indicator of how low you are.

I've actually been looking into this myself. I've tried with the ball of my foot firmly on the peg, and my toes pointed forward, and I've tried with my ball on the "front corner" of the peg with my toes pointed out. Neither seems any more or less natural nor does either seem to put me off the bike further. I've been practicing body position a little while my bike is on the rearstand (hey it sounds retarded, but its a bit too cold to ride lately), and I'm finding that when I hang off in a way that feels comfortable to me my knee extends less than a foot out passed the plastics.

I was told by NESBA CR that you put the outside edge of the peg in the middle of the ball of your foot, then pivot your heal towards the front of the bike. slide until your ass crack is on the edge of the seat and slide back.Head on the mirro,r inside elbow bent.outside elbow "locked" on the tank. Move your body as a whole so your spine is straight. Don't pivot your hips around the tank but move your body as a whole to the side.Look through the turn. When you feel like your off too much, you're probably where you should be. I'm no expert! Hope this helps. BTW its hard to practice position on your stands because when riding the g's help you stay on the bike. Just practice.

make sure your not leaning too far off. a lot of people including myself until my last trackday when someone brought it up to me hang quite a bit off the seat. only one cheek should be off with the other one sitting firmly on the seat. height also has a really large role in when your knee touches down. im only 5.8 so i have to be atleast 30 degrees over to even start to scrape. but like others have said dont worry about scraping just worry about the corner one time you'll tkae it a bit hot and lean over farther and realize you werent going too fast at all and your knee will touch.

I put my foot so some of it hangs off the peg. It lets me rotate my foot over toward the track and my body lower on the side of the bike. When I'm at full lean and really jammin, it almost feels like I'm standing on the end of my peg. I had a track mentor tell me that I had really good position, and to look into higher pegs for my style.

place the peg at the ball of my foot, stick my knee out and my foot naturally points down as it pivots.

1st time I got my knee down was at my 2nd track event with Cal-Sportbike TrackXperience...
needless to say I wasn't looking to get my knee down, especially on the streets.

Truth be known, everyone one WANTS to get his knee down ASAP !

Doing it on the road is WAY more difficult, but maybe just relax and enjoy the ride.........
It comes with time, like veryone else has said, ride smooth, get the lines right and sooner than later the only thing between the track and the tank will be your knee........

Too many people (myself included at one point) are just trying to drag a knee for the sake of saying I dragged a knee, not for the functional aspect of why you are doing it in the first place. Better work on being smooth and find the right lines through the corner instead of concentrating on digging your knee into the ground.

Just focus on riding the corner fast, don't focus on getting knee down. When you're fast enough, your knee will touch the ground.
