: Debating on buying Arai in store, or off eBay...?
Dave88LX 01-19-2006, 04:35 PM My local store has the Quantum 2 for $580. I tried it on along with Shoei's, HJC's, KBC's, AGV's etc., and this helmet fits me the best. I saw on here something about Arai not honoring a warranty if not bought from an authorized dealer...so, now I'm wondering "Do I really need a warranty?" I mean, what can really go wrong that I would need a warranty? I can get one off eBay for in the $360-$450 range...
Then, someone else mentioned someone selling fake helmets? Any truth to that, or business names?
Just not sure if I should buy from the store and spend an extra $200+, or just get one off eBay...
Thanks.
05yellowGSXR 01-19-2006, 04:55 PM Go back to the store and tell them what you can get it for and see if they can get close to that. I went in one of my local shops the other week and got a price on an akrapovic bolt-on and after being told their price (retail), I told them what I could get it for online, shipped, and they matched that price. It would still cost a bit more due to the sales tax, but its worth it for the more hands on customer service you get at a local shop. If they dropped the price down below $500 on your helmet it might make it worth it to get the warranty.
SPL170db 01-19-2006, 11:39 PM Go to the store, try them all on and find out which size fits you properly, then go to eBay and buy it.
$500 for the Quantum 2 is a complete rip-off compared to what you can get it off eBay for. You can get the RX-7 Corsair for less than that.
05yellowGSXR 01-20-2006, 12:47 AM I was just throwing out a number, but if they could within a few bucks of the ebay price it may make it worth it.
FreeflyKC 01-20-2006, 05:58 AM If it helps at all I got my Corsair locally for $520. That's about 20% off before Arai lowered the MSRP.
Dave88LX 01-20-2006, 09:26 AM Man both places in town have it for $580. I don't know if the warranty is worth $200. I will see if they can do anything to match or knock the price down some, but I doubt it.
I wish I lived in a REAL city!
knocker 01-20-2006, 09:26 AM I've got my Corsair Hayden replica for $340 from Ebay last summer. Brand NEW. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
diddy2003 01-20-2006, 10:14 AM Go to a place where you know the people in the parts room. I got a brand new tempest astral X for $275. I think the msrp is something like $490. Another good reason for buying one in a store is that you can try the helmet on and take a good look at it before buying it. My friends work at a local bike shop and they told me that there is huge mark up in the difference between what the bike store pays for the helmet and what they sell for on the floor. I paided just a little more than what the bike shop paid for the helmet so you should be able to get one for a good price at one of your local bike shops.
Uncle Shittypants 01-20-2006, 04:05 PM yup I love my quantum 2, i bought it in store when I bought my bike. Wish I wouldnt of though. Get it on EGAY
Dave88LX 01-20-2006, 04:49 PM Do you think it's worth it to have the 5 yr warranty? Has anyone had to have any warranty work done? Has anyone had an eBay helmet and tried the warranty?
Thanks!
Bought my Q2 for $460 from reputable online store. (Yea I know, Arai's says thats
a big no no), Anyway gave 'em a call told em my size what I wanted. Got it 5 days later.
with warranty card, bag etc..
Dave88LX 01-21-2006, 12:41 PM Do you mind linking or PM'ing me the store?
Thanks!
werewolf 01-21-2006, 07:51 PM Got my Quantum II a year and a half ago in a local store for under $500. After trying 5 different helmets on [brands and sizes] I'm glad I didn't just guess and order one without first trying. Of course you can always go to a store, try a few until you find one which works, and eBay or order it online.
Doesn't do much to establish a rapport with local stores, but that's your choice.
Admittedly I didn't bother reading up on the warranty implications from doing this as I purchased mine from an Arai dealer.
Shugixxer 01-28-2006, 02:15 PM I got my RX7 Corsair off ebay almost 2 years ago when they first came out for 450 bucks. I went to a local dealership, tried them on (they were asking nearly 800 for them at the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and found the best fit, then bought my helmet on ebay. It was brand new, still in box and plastic with tags.
I found it to be a smidge looser than it originally was once it was worn in, and last year at the NYC bike show, I got properly fitted by the rep from Arai - the same guy who was on 2 wheel tuesday a while back - and i went up a few millimeters in my liner, and the thing sitll fits like its brand new.
So remember, if it doesn't fit perfect when you get it, try swapping out the liner and or cheekpads with thicker or thnner sizes.
Dave88LX 01-30-2006, 04:00 PM Well I think I'm just going to get one off eBay, I don't think I will need a warranty. I'll let you know if after I buy it I change my mind about the warranty. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
