: Anybody done Keith Code school on his bikes?
NoBull 10-09-2002, 12:50 PM I want to do this school next spring. I'm leaning towards using his bike, because between trailering my bike and wearing out a set of tires and everything it's going to come out the same pricewise (+$200).
My question is : Does the $595 include insurance and what not? Should I expect any more expenses than the $595?
mpdgsxr1000 10-09-2002, 12:53 PM one thing to take into account is if you crash you have to pay the cost of the repairs usually within 3 days after the school.
gixxerjasen 10-09-2002, 01:40 PM Don't forget, if you use your bike, you'll be using a bike that your used to and your learning curve will be better than if your having to get used to a new bike. Plus you can more easily take the skills to your bike afterward.
BTW, good school, me and the little gix did it back in June and I'll be going back next year.

mpdgsxr1000 10-09-2002, 03:27 PM there is no insurance at a track its you broke it you pay for it whether its your bike or theirs
NoBull 10-09-2002, 03:31 PM OK. Thanks. I'll have to think about whether I wanna use my own bike then. Thanks again.
mpdgsxr1000 10-09-2002, 03:34 PM i almost forgot one thing to ask the school about their bikes though is if there is a set maximum you would have to pay if you crash theirs. California Superbike school's max you pay is like $2000 if you wreck. doesnt hurt to ask them. it should be writen down on their website as well
Hammer 4 10-09-2002, 09:00 PM I have a friend that crashed one of Code's bikes..just a easy lowside in the wet..but I could ask him what the deal is..if ya want.?
NoBull 10-10-2002, 11:30 AM Hammer, if ya don't mind, please ask. Thanks.
Hammer 4 10-10-2002, 01:20 PM Will do.. images/icons/grin.gif

Ytry2 10-11-2002, 03:06 PM something to think about, I corner worked for code last month here in Colorado (took the course in Laguna on my own bike) 6 riders went down that day , of those 6, only one brought his own bike... Learning bike control is hard enough, but learning bike control and learning a new bike is much harder..

Some will pay if damage is incurred at a track as long as you are attending a qualifying "school". If I had damaged my bike at the Code school at North FL Motosports Park last week, my Nationwide fully comp insurance would have paid for it.
Hammer 4 10-12-2002, 12:17 AM K..here's the deal as best as he could recall..he crashed on eof their bikes in the rain..wiped out the left side plastic, clutch lever, and frame mount boss..cost him $540.00 to get it fixed ..you have to sign a wavier that you'll be responsible for covering their deductable, up to $750.00 max..if ya total a bike...he couldn't recall if they required a deposit, of that amount, by using his C.C...It was while back when he took K.C.'s school. I hope this helps ya.. images/icons/grin.gif
NoBull 10-12-2002, 02:57 AM No problem. It'll be May or so before I can go images/icons/grin.gif
I took Keith's 2 day course at Mid-Ohio before the AMA event. When you first get there to register, they make you sign a waiver stating you won't sue them if you hurt or kill yourself and they also take an imprint of a credit card. You need to put a $750 deposit on the card to cover you if you wreck...and you are only responsible for up to that $750 (if you total it, your only out $750). If you do wreck, there is a bunch of paper work that you have to do, you get a written estimate of the damage and then they evaluate whether they will let you back on the track. If they do and you want to go, you need to sign another waiver and put another $750 deposit down for the next bike.
As for the class..it rocks. I did use their bikes which took a little to get used to but it was fine after a couple of laps. The camera bike they have is set up a little differently, but your not supposed to go balls out when using it.
And I did wreck (on the camera bike to boot!), so I do know first hand the process Keith's school goes through and what the cash outlay is...any other questions....let me know.

chrisOH 10-12-2002, 03:08 PM I found the zx6r an easy bike to get used to. By middle of the first day I was already dragging the footpeg (they don't want you leaning that far over though, i.e. crasing) but the bike is easy to get used to.
I am glad I didn't use my bike as the 1000 is taking a lot of work to get the throttle control minute enough to keep the rear end from breaking loose. The 600 allows a lot more room for error witht the throttle. 3rd gear, knee on the deck, 10k rpm, and rolling the throttle on pretty decent with the rear tire not even thinking of letting go. I know that means I could use more lean angle or twist the throttle that extra bit.
NoBull 10-15-2002, 11:52 AM Thanks to everybody for their replies.
As it stands there's no way I'm taking my 1K to the school. As somebody said, it's really to powerful for a track newbie. I can't afford another claim with my insurance company either so I'd have to pay for repairs myself which is probably more than $750.
I might have a track bike by that time, but it'll be as new to me as Keith's bike would be. If I do have a track bike, I might use that. Not sure. I'm leaning towards using his bike.
I have my own leathers and will be using those. Nothing else fits when you're 6'8" images/icons/grin.gif
Thanks again guys!
