Is anyone out here going to be at Putnam on the 28th and 29th. This will be my 3rd trip to Putnam this year and I am really pumped. You see I had a 01 R1 that I ride on the street and took to trackdays and used to switch all my street stuff back and forth everytime I would go to the track...after I went to Road America in July, I decided to buy a dedicated race/track bike. I found myself a clean 01 750 on ebay and got it nice and cheap. 100 percent bone stock. I have been prepping it for the past month and have not even ridden the bike but 20 miles (not liscensed!!) graemlins/thumbup.gif I have added a Full Hindle system that i bought off this site. A PCII. 520 DID ERV2 and aluminum sprockets. I went up 2 teeth in the rear (did this on my R1 and it made a world of difference). I am planning on running full Race 4 Silkolene Synthetic Oil. I have safety wired the drain bolt, oil filter, and filler cap. Bought a set of AK Composites Bodywork that should be here soon!! ....lets see. Bought a lap timer.
Anyways, I have done 1:20 at Putnam before on the R1, but I am hoping that I will do ok on this bike for the first time. This winter I plan on doing some suspension work...Any comments or tips about the Gixxer?? Or if you are going to be at Putnam. Look for me..I am not sure what color the bike will be..98 green S10 Hauler!!..may still be unprimered rough fiberglass..depends if it gets here in time to paint. ANY TIPS??

My race plastic is still primered as it is very cheap plastic and not very smooth finish. I plan on sanding again, primer one more time, then rough sand and paint gloss black.
As for putnam on the GSXR (and seeing your time is about 4 seconds faster than my best) the only thing i can add is watch the rebound on the front as my 1000 had a tendency to bounce and shake down the front straight Because of to much rebound.
Backing off the rebound and the double bubble windscreen fixed and saw 165 on the tach at the top of the hill before the braking zone for turn one.
Keep in touch as I will be at some track days at Putnam next year.
Let me know if you can get the peg down on the GSXR. I have not yet major ground clearence.

I wish I could go, I love Putnam. Putnam has tons of grip, what a great track. I got into the 18's on my street bike there earlier in the year. You'll be a lot faster than you were on the R1 on the 750, trust me. If you can run 20's on the R1, expect 17's on the 750. Gearing, 16/43 would be a good start there.

Hey thanks for the comments!! I think the Bike is all ready to go! Been working all week on it and it is finally ready. My buddy Mitch and his brother Doc Stein helped me tonight setup my suspension sag with adjusting the preload. I am a fairly big dude and weigh about 245. We got the rear set according to Suspension for Mortals. The front is totally at the stiffest and according to the book I am still 10 mm too far still on my sag. So this winter I will be putting stiffer springs on the gixxer!..had already expected to anyways. I think I am going to race next year!!! For whoever is there I will be pitting on the Front Cold Pit Lane with Mitch from Mid-Illini Motorsports, He will be doing full tire service the whole weekend at VERY, VERY REASONABLE PRICES. He also has tons of race takeoffs for sale if anyone is interested.
As far as lap times...I hope to do low 20's or high teens the first time out on the new bike. But I am looking forward to it for sure. Here is what I have done to it to get it ready from 100% stock to this:
Michelin Pilot Race tires 01 spec tires
Full Hindle Carbon
PCII
EBC green HH Kit race only pads
AK composite bodywork (recommended www.akcomposite.com) (http://www.akcomposite.com))
HEL Stainless Steel Brake lines
Safety wire oil drain, oil fill, and filter
Full Race synthetic Silkolene oil
Full Synthetic Silkolene Brake Fluid
Adjusted Suspension to my weight (hopefully)
cut off luggage crap on subframe and hacked most of undertray
still have plenty of mods to do this winter!!
come and see me if you are at Putnam..by the tire guys!! Hope to see you there!

High teens is a good gaol on a street bike. BE safe and keep it on 2. Seems like you are all ready. NEw springs will make a huge difference. I'm 225lbs so I know what you mean about the stock springs. HAVE FUN!!!

Well, the Gixxer survived the first weekend as a race bike only!! I ran a couple seconds quicker on it than i did on my R1!! I was wrong about my 20 I did on the R1...my best on my R1 was a 22..I did a 20 this weekend on the gixxer...now I need to put some stiffer springs to take care of my fat ass...245 pounds...ouch. and go on a serious diet for next year's race season..what a weekend...I did over 200 miles at Putnam!!
