: The official fired NFL coaches thread
As you all know, the Vikings fired Mike Tice less than an hour after they beat the Bears.
Well, today the axe swung and four other head coaches were sent packing.
The Texans fired their (only) head coach Capers.
No surprise on the next two but Jim Haslett was shit canned along with Mike Martz by the Rams.
The last one to me is an stupid move IMO. Mike Sherman was released by the Packers today. I don't feel as though he deserved it and have a feeling this will be a very big determining factor when Favre makes his decision. I don't see him coming back to play with a new head coach for his final year. Part of me thinks that they did this to force Favre's hand and make it easier on all of them. I don't think they wanted to be the team that benched Brett Favre during the season should he continue throwing INTs and so this is much easier and will probably signal the beginning for the rebuilding in Green Bay.
GixxerRacer317 01-02-2006, 03:27 PM Well Other than the Boat thing in which Tice wasn't a part of I thought once the better QB got to play they did well. So I don't quite get his firing...... I think instead I would have let the players go that did all the shit they did. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/plthumbsdown.gif
Capers Haslett and Martz I can agree with....... Martz was a joke from the second he took the reigns of the Rams. He's a coordinator not a COACH!! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
The Sherman firing is a surprise to me though...... I look for a long drought in the win column for that team similar to the Pre-Favre days. I liked the Pack but only with Favre at QB. Has Favre lost something? Yeah......... you can see it in his eyes, he's not into the game like he once was. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/disappointed.gif
Uncle Shittypants 01-02-2006, 03:42 PM The better QB? Brad Johnson isnt the better QB

http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wtf.gif Yeah Right....... you are kidding aren't you? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/spit.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rotflol.gif Culpepper is a joke...... once Moss was out of the picture Dante was exposed for what he really is....... a mediocre QB at best. Only thing he had going for him is his size. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/plthumbsdown.gif
I've been reading the transcripts from the Vikings Owner and all I can say is what a Moron...... the guy (or Owners group) doesn't know shit about Football!! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rotflol.gif

For Culpepper to achieve greatness once again sans Moss he'll have to run the ball a lot more like the good old days and use his size to his advantage... which won't happen now. He's gettin on in years and has relied on the passing game for long enough that I see him having a hard time getting back to the basics. No receivers and a new head coach.... could be a trying few seasons for the Vik's.
Moss also hates life in Oakland so we'll see what happens there. I see some pretty big moves this off season and see Moss going to Dallas and T.O. ending up in Denver... but we'll see what happens.

I think it's more from frustration from the situation up there, with the owners not spending any money on top players or to keep the ones they had. And I agree that firing Sherman is the managements way to force Farve out and still save face. I think if he decided to play somewhere else (which I highly doubt), the fire would come back. Just my .02.
GixxerRacer317 01-03-2006, 04:32 AM Culpepper's knee injury will probably limit his ability to run like he once did. His passing ability never was much to talk about so what will he have left? I guess a boat to go ride around the lake in..... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ott.gif
As much as I cringe at saying it I think Dallas needs a Moss or an Owens to get to the next step..... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/disappointed.gif but that would just be a start, they also need offensive line help bad! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
Favre is my all time favorite QB http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif and thats saying alot being a Cowboy fan (Aikman & Staubach)...... I would like to think it was frustration at the situation this year, but if he does not return to Green Bay I think he should reunite with Holmgren in Seattle if his heart is in it..... I don't know how good Hasselbeck is and if he can get the Seahawks where they want to be. Favre would be good insurance too......
Assuming of course Hasselbeck us healthy I don't see Favre starting in Seattle and I also don't see him taking a back-up roll... at least I would hope he wouldn't.

Yeah...... I really don't have a good read on Hasselbeck to know one way or the other if he has what it takes to win under pressure or win the big game.

Look at it this way... say Favre does go to Seattle and they do start him and sit Hasselbeck. Favre will most likely retire at the end of that season and now you're left with a QB who was good enough but you chose to sit the whole season in favor of a QB who was once great but you knew would only be there a year. Doesn't say a lot for the guy who you've pinned ALL your hopes on just a year prior who did nothing to warranty the pine riding he received. Not a good move from a coaching standpoint.
All speculation though and besides, Favre WILL announce his retirement very soon. Look for a press conference announcement within the next week or two because I know he doesn't want to make GB wait forever on his decision and not know which way they are going next season to begin preparing.
Add Norv Turner to the list because the Raiders shit canned him today (yesterday as I look at my watch) in Oakland.
cfgsxr11 01-04-2006, 04:36 AM Farve will return! he's a true winner and will not go out with 29 interceptions!

You've been watching too much ESPN. I don't think it's the 29 INTs so much as the 4-12 record.
lilmush 01-05-2006, 01:07 AM Chiefs are in talks to hire Herm Edwards.

I think he'll be back. He will wait and see who the coach is and what they plan on running for the offence. If the change offence he'll be done. He can still throw the ball like he always could. He just trys way to hard to make everything happen because he is the only one that can do anything on the team.
