I have a 03 gsxr 1000 with -1/+2 gearing and bmc race filter with billet velocity stacks a full arata ti system with power commander 3usb with map according. this bike will and is used for drag and street racing. was looking into more mods like cams and or other mods being I think i am pretty much at my limits without going into the motor or head. I do all my own work and was just looking for some advise before I make my descision. the bike is making around 166 to 168 rwhp, could be more with u4 or mr9 but this is pump gas numbers, any advise will be taken and researched thanks. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You need to modify head and fit big cams to go up a lot in power.
Easier way is to overbore and/or stroke the motor. For drag racing you could add nos for more cheap power.
As with anything, the more you tune the motor the higher the service intervals and the shorter the life.
Go with a professionally done head from a reputable shop. The stock heads have some very good areas and its all too easy to ruin these.
What sort of power are you looking for and what do you want to spend?

as of right now had a extra 1500 to spend. but I mean I could get more. its just that i wasnt want to run nos as of right now due to the rules or my local track are the same as ama prostar ss class and looking into runing for fun in some of them next yr. power wise I would like to see good low and mid power as well as some as far as peak, guessing about mid 170's, and yes i do all my work but would not do my own port work as i dont have the tools like a gas bench, been looking at the second web cams on there site with adj cam sprockets and manual tensioner also degreeing in the cams. possible yosh gasket but that all depends on clearances. whats a good site to look for head work. I have a friend that works for TEA.

While I certainly don't condone your street racing antics, I guess some cams (Web or Yoshimura) and some head work would be next.

ooops did I say street racing I ment I drag strip test my bike only and alil private test track raceing. will look into the yosh cams as well. prob will leave the head work alone for now and see where cams get me. like to get more power under the curve and a peak of around 171 to the wheel.

You should check out Carpenter Racing Engines like oldgixxer said. http://www.carpenterracing.com/gsxr1000.htm
If I remember correctly people were having to get the crank balancer removed and lighten and balance the crank to get those kind of numbers on just head work and cams. Also if you do the labor of working on it yourself the price is closer to $2000, than $3300.00. The cams are drop in just follow the manual instructions and your done. While your in there freshen the motor up with some new bearings and possibly some rings. Might aswell start the season fresh.

Other shops are close to $900 for head work and cams can set you back anywhere from 600-800 bucks. However what ever you do I suggest that you get the cams suggested by who ever does the head work.

Its just a theory but I think that once a shop finds an exceptable combination they tend to settle and stick with that combination. Every shop has different views when it comes to porting heads and these believes tend to factor into their lift and duration on their cam choice. Thats why I believe although you might see gains with head work and Yoshi cams you will see better gains with a reground from the shop that does your head work.

Original poster, I would suggest doing head and cams next.......unless you are going run AMA Pro Star 1000cc Supersport rules......and then I would do an SS build... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
