Hey- Just bought a carbon fiber gas tank. It was a blind sale I trusted the description.
When the tank came I opened it up...The inside of the tank was full of peeled rubbery (sort of ) piant like substance. Its obvious that the manufacture sloshes a resin or paint of some kind to make a layer between the gasoline and the carbon fiber. My question is-Does anyone know what that stuff is or who i can talk to about rehabing a carbon fiber tank?

Try QB carbon. I think they make carbon tanks

Petrolium (gas) and carbon fiber don't play well together. That is some sort of barrier. I don't think it should be peeling though.

the inside of QB carbon's tanks are bare carbon though. They don't put any kind of sealer in it. The sealer should be a good thing and shouldn't be peeling off.

Well there are alot of companies that do tank coatings and tank rebuilds. If the coating on the inside is coming off see if it can be repaired. I'd imagine they use something special that bonds to the metal, not sure if they use something different for CF.

if its really peeling id clean it out and do a cream coating. like what you would do to a rusty but dont use the stripper cause i dont know what it would do to carbon
