: Leathers for the Ladies
Sarah 11-11-2005, 12:48 AM I got this email from a journalist in NC. He asked me to get the word out since I know many riders/racers!
And if you're a guy reading this, check these out for your gf or wife! You don't want her to tear up her smooth soft skin do ya? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Sarah
I have forwarded this message to you from Laurel Allen at Road Racer X.
She is a wonderful young lady and very enthusiastic 'bout this old
sport of ours. If you could be of any help, I would appreciate your input. Not being a woman, well not the last time I looked anyway, I can't be too much of a helphere.
cheers.
Neale
Those of you who attended Femmoto probably saw the cool one-piece
suit that Adam at Joe Rocket designed for me. That suit was a
prototype--an effort by Joe Rocket designers to figure out how to offer women a suit that actually fits, instead of just trying to sell us a small men's
suit. The good news is that Adam and the others who worked on the project succeeded: The suit fit perfectly, was comfortable, and looked good (even on a slow girl with a flat ass--see photo). The bad news is that this suit won't be made and offered to the public unless their distributor can be convinced that there's a decent market for it. Or, as Adam replied when I asked him when the suit would be available:
"Re. women's leathers ... Well, this is a tough one; we've done our homework and built a suit pattern that really fits women well. Although we are ready to take it to market, our distributor is not interested in carrying such a thing because they believe there is not a great
demand for it. We need to hear from all the female riders out there who
desire a one piece road race suit that fits properly. I really do hope that we can accumulate proof enough to convince our distributor to carry
the suit."
SO--can we make a little noise, or what? This isn't about Joe Rocket
or even about one-piece road race suits; it's about convincing those in the motorcycle industry of our viability as a market segment and the logic in catering to female riders, with the end result of more
choices being available to women of all shapes and sizes.
If you're a women who'd be interested in a women-specific road race suit, or if you're a guy who'd buy one for someone you like, please
add your name (and affiliation, if applicable) to the list below and forward it to anyone else you think might be interested. Every fifthperson (5, 10, 15, 20), please send the whole mess back my way:
laurel@roadracerx.com. Thanks, LCA

Kiri Rocket Rider 11-11-2005, 01:00 AM Part of the problem is that true women riders, those that race and really get into serious motorcycling are typically taller then the average woman. The female gear out there right now is cut for chicks that don't do anything but ride on the back...Getting Joe Rocket and other companies to recognize not only do we need gear cut to fit a womans body, but also to fit a "Tall" womans body is gonna be impossible.
Grandevil 11-11-2005, 02:52 AM Thankyou Kiri. My $350 icon has sleeves too short and it squishes my boobs too.
Sarah 11-11-2005, 03:29 AM I have personally ran into the problem of leathers being tooo big. I have some tenkic that i got based on my height (6'1") they fit perfect in the legs, a little extra room in the thighs, but not bad. From the waist up however...you could fit 3 of my upperbody in there. Here's an example, GNF last year it was SO cold i had my leathers on, a sweatshirt and a blanket over that. I pulled my arms out of my sleeves (to my leathers and sweatshirt) and had room to spare. The upper body could twist all the way around my body. I was frustrated and wanted something that "fit" me! This year I had custome leathers, they were better but still had some issues. When you measure make sure you 'give' a little in the measurements because an 'exact fit' like mine were suposed to be ending up being too short from the waist to my neck. In turn when i was racing it would choke me each time i leaned forward or side to side. So being tall is just as hard to find gear for as some of you who are shorter than average.
I do know of one shop here in Ga. that is a womens gear shop. I recently visited the shop and found it different than any other. It really was full of gear for women. Big, small, tall, short, average, long legs short upperbody, everything WOMEN! their website doesn't have a lot on it, decent but not nearly what the store has. www.she-rides.com (http://www.she-rides.com) you can call them tho and tell them what you're looking for and I bet they have it IN STOCK! Ask for Judy!!
But anyway, I hope they come out with something because more and more women are getting into racing...and even more into just riding period, and it's just going to become more of a demand for us ladies!
Kiri Rocket Rider 11-11-2005, 03:37 AM http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif 6"1.....All these sexy tall women around and not a one of ya is a lez....Damn my luck...damn damn damn,,, http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Grandevil 11-11-2005, 06:42 AM I find that most of these companies making stuff for women is making it for these teeny little model women who wear a size 00.
Kiri Rocket Rider 11-11-2005, 06:56 AM Yeah pretty much...When inseams are 30" and at the longest 32" in womens gear you know there is somthing wrong when women that short can't even touch the ground on a sport bike...Fuckin mototrcycle apparel industry assholes!!
rowdyrednekgurl 11-11-2005, 01:11 PM Seconds and triples Kiri and Devil's comments.... I wish custom leathers weren't so damn expensive...
I need man size clothes with a woman's size ass...lol
Kiri Rocket Rider 11-11-2005, 01:29 PM See, I can't do that...There's just something about wearing mens clothes that grosses me out..It feels creepy. Maybe because i've experianced too many dates that when the pants came off, I was staring at fruit of the loom boxers...Just ruined the moment and caused a mental allergy to dude duds....LOL
Grandevil 11-12-2005, 12:53 AM Yeah not a fan of wearing the mens stuff...plus I have boobs...so that just doesn't work out for me.
rowdyrednekgurl 11-12-2005, 10:32 PM I need man size clothes with a woman's size ass...lol
This is what I said... I never said anything about wearing man's clothes... however... when I was younger.. that was the only way you could get jeans that fit us tall skinny women was to wear man's pants... but I am older than ya'll so that was before your time... plus I always had to wear men's tennis shoes too becuase they never made women's shoes big enough either back in the day....
But to each their own I guess....
Grandevil 11-13-2005, 01:38 AM damn you can't be THAT old!!
I have bought men's shoes and pants before. The shoes fit better because they were wider.
Kiri Rocket Rider 11-13-2005, 06:59 AM I actually have one pair of mens pants...Some North Face Climbing pants but that's as far as I can go with it...Naww Rowdy , we wern't callin you a crossdresser now...Just embellishing on your post... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif We love you girl!!
rowdyrednekgurl 11-13-2005, 09:59 AM lol I am 34 and have been tall since elementary school.. so trustme in the early 80's the only tall women clothes were in size 12 and bigger...soooooooo in middle school I mostly wore guys jeans and shoes..lol
thank good in the 80's for long socks cuz they covered my high waters when I wore women's jeans when I got my booty..lol
Grandevil 11-13-2005, 11:49 AM ick....the 80's
BFSGSXR1000LOVER 11-19-2005, 06:28 AM Does anyone know who makes some nice looking WHITE riding boots? All I can find are black and brown, everything I have is mostly white and just seems dumb not to have white boots. doesn't it? Also I am 5'4 and 120 lbs and I still have a hard time finding gear that fits correctly, either the arms are to long or to short or I have to deal with a jacket that is too tight or to loose to accomodate my chest. Seems ridiculous for them to call something a "womens jacket" and it not be catered to a womans body....if someone can get back to me about the boots though it would be greatly appreciated!! THANKS
Grandevil 11-19-2005, 06:35 AM Never seen white boots http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
BFSGSXR1000LOVER 11-19-2005, 06:53 AM I don't get why guys get white boots and girls don't!!! I know its terrible but I am very tempted to get guys boots because I just don't think I can continue wearing tennis shoes...and I'm not spending that much money on boots that don't match and that I don't even really like....
Grandevil 11-20-2005, 07:32 AM I've never seen ANY white riding boots, that includes men's.
They'd just get dirty and scuffed up anyways which is why black is so much better.
Angela M 11-20-2005, 11:30 AM With the changes made to the '06 GSXR's, now the vertically challenged girls can ride too! (Like me!) I'm looking for any advice on where to buy leathers. (Laurel, I sent u an email as requested.)
I'm almost 5' 1" (5 foot and 3/4 of an inch) and everything I've tried on is way too big. Nobody carries women's riding suits for me to even try on in the 'village' where I live. The closest big city is Atlanta, which is 6 hours away, and even the dealerships there don't carry anything in stock.
Any suggestions, ladies? Sorry, growing taller isn't an option at my age. But, after reading your posts, that doesn't sound like that helps either!
Thanks,
Angie

Amen. When will they start to take women riders seriously and offer us a variety of sizes and fits as the do for men? And NOT EVERY GIRL WANTS TO WEAR PINK OR PASTELS ALL THE TIME. Seriously, how many of us have bikes that will match pink leathers??? I've seen 2, and that's it.
And the company wonders why they don't sell more of them. Duh.
Stefan 11-20-2005, 11:43 AM I saw something about leathers so I hopped in really quickly!!
If you have questions call up Motoliberty! They don't list everything on their website and Audrey is extremely helpful!!
Bye!!
Angela M 11-23-2005, 12:34 PM Thanks! I just so happened to make a lucky find today at the place I take my bike for service. The owner's wife rides and she always tries to carry some women's gear. They just so happened to have a Technic 2pc set in my size for $225. Sweeet! Now I don't have to borrow someone elses sweat, i mean, leathers.
She told me about some of the best sites for women's gear (boots, too) but I forgot to write them down. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I'll ask her again on Friday and post my finds.
Happy Turkey day!
Angela M 11-24-2005, 09:03 AM I saw that Alpinestars has some (mostly) white boots. The stella SMX-3 and the SMX-plus.
BFSGSXR1000LOVER 11-28-2005, 12:10 AM Thanks a ton! I have come to the realization that you basically have to buy any real gear you want off the internet. None of the stores around here carry any boots, gloves or pants for girls, just jackets that are never the right size!! Oh well, thanks for the help with the boots, I really appreciate it, and they don't look bad either. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Angela M 12-01-2005, 02:33 PM Sorry, I forgot to ask Tina about the good websites - I was too excited about getting to ride on the track! (Very awesome, BTW) I'll put a sticky note on my bike and my cell phone to remind me.
juniorace 12-09-2005, 10:36 AM Hi Ladies. Ran across this site (http://www.g-line-store.com/intro.html) and thought I'd share it.

I"m not tall and while I'm not FAT I am a little over weight. With that in mind and your slender and tall statures out there, it is just hard to fit leather for women.
Sometimes it is just easier to just have it made to fit.

Me neither. You may try to trim/accessorize in black and then do black boots and gloves.

I just can't stomach PINK! But becuase I'm female they keep trying to push it on me. Give me Blue, Red, but don't give me that GAWD awful pink!
Let the guys wear pink!
