if your new, just clutching 2nd is difficult stock

1st is a blast, but you'll be on your ass if u don't know how to be a bit careful.
why don't u just get up to about 40mph in 1st, let off the throttle for a split second, and just hammer it again really quick. not wide open throttle, but a good quick input amount. She should come up.

do know though - starting stunts = an increase in the chance of a wreck from 70% to 90%

+1
thats how i started doing them, just rev it out to around seven grand back off the throttle and then nail it but stay relaxed and dont lean over the front, be careful though because first gear is twitchy and read some of the other posts on how to wheelie alot of guys here know what they are talking about. Good luck http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

biggest tip that helped me for 1st gear was - sit all the way back in your seat. id be right against the solo cowl. stiffin up the preload on your rear shock as well it takes a dime an 10 seconds. i didnt like the clutch method, so i would accel to about 30... and then do like the others have stated. accel off, then hammer. itll be hard to think of atm... but keep your right foot covering that rear brake just in case you bring it too high. good luck. hopefully youve got protection and arent doing this where your endangering others....

+1 on that just take your time and dont rush into it... im still learning also, just becareful and make sure you dont wake your nuts on the tank if your doing a sitdown 1. i have a 50 that i practice on just to get used to the bike being at that angle.

Read the wheelie how-to in here. Thtas how I learned to bring the wheel up, and make sure that if oyu are going to do any kind of stunting, that you HEAT up the tires first. Just don't leave your driveway and try to pull on up, or you might wipe out.

Going 40 in 1st on a 600 is rather dangerous and fast. You can go at a lower speed and that thing should still come up fairly easy. I'd say 25-30 would be ideal.

yeah 25-30 mpg on a 600 is good.. and yes watch your nuts on the tank.. god.. i can do it easy now after like a couple weeks of practice every time i do it, its longer and longer.. its so twitchy though.. in the early stages i would get scared let off and then when i hit the ground my hand would hit the throttle on accident and it would get right back up.. kinda sucked.. be careful !1

ya if your someone who will turn the throttle. a lot of people who first try to do a wheelie, are to scared to turn the throttle very far. I'm talking about sneaking up on the power band and just open her up about half way for a second, just to show someone respect of the machine by where her power is.

I'm not gong to make a huge deal about it, with me and wheelies its turned into a one a month thing, and all I ever do is get going to fast because of not staying up high enough. I like to do them from time to time, just to try and teach myself some throttle control for when your down and low

I was practicing my second gear clutch ups on my 750 when i went down a week ago, it sucked i was wearing a helmet but only a t-shirt and i got nicely rashed up on my arm and back. I'm a gear nazi from now on, at least when stunting at all. I'm not gonna practice wheelies anymore till i get some good gear cause that shit hurt. I can tell you though since i was on only like my 8th sucessful 2nd gear clutch up, when i wrecked. I was covering the break but it went from just right, to way to high so quick i didn't have time to react. By the time i realized i was too high my tail scraped the ground and i was off. My bike never fell over which was awesome though. It rolled and eventually stalled against some bushes so it was basically unhurt except for my tail and undertail.

Be careful when practicing, and wear gear, its worth it.

haah ya thats biggest thing (while i've never wrecked from a wheelie) don't let go till your wrecked or sliding. with a wheelie going to high, a lot of times she'll hit and come back forward, or engine braking will bring you back. I've had 2 close calls when I first started them, but like I've said I've pretty much given up on wheelies except here and there.
glad your ok though dude http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

THAT wreak that some one wuz talkin a bout earlyer! where they did not have time to hit the back brake.what i do as a habit is anytime before i bring the front wheel up. i steep on the rear brake enuff to feel the bike slow down a bit then i will bring it up ! wethr its clutch or power i allways do this! it ensures that you are not only steeping on the rear brake completely but allso gives you a sense of how hard you will need to apply the brakes inorder two get the front back down!!........and i just allways do it i think it is a good thing and it has saved my ass in the past !!..........all so when ever u do start ridin wheelies out all ways bring the front end down with the rear brake this allso teaches a good habit!all this will help u when u finally do need the back brakes!!.......anywayz HOPE THIS HELPS AND GOOD LUCK BRO!!!!!..............and remember baby steps ..........you have to crawl before you can walk!!!!
